Riley Trainer Northern Virginia OL

I coached this kid in baseball. He is even better at football. He is an elite OL for a 5-0 team up here. Kid is the real deal. Super kid with high leadership skills. I really wish our coaches would take a look. Some team is going to take him and not be disappointed. Just want us the one to do so.
So how would you compare him as a prospect to Francis Mauigoa?

He needs to camp. If he’s blowing kids away and stonewalling elite rush ends people will notice. But if that’s him in that film, I doubt he can add more than 30 more pounds and stay agile which says G5 or Div 2 to me.

What group would that be? There are plenty of awesome officers and awesome people of all races. Not everything is about race.

He was obviously referring to the great Irish migration during the famine & their treatment upon arriving in this fair land.

Water under the bridge in my book. Then again I wasn’t an Irish potato farmer coming to America.

If the kid "understands football", is a dog competitor, smart, tough, and 6'0" and 235 pounds ... he might make a heck of a LB. Instead of hoping for D1 coaches to look at him for an OL slot (when they are looking for guys that are 6'6" - 6'8" and 300+) why not see if the kid can play another position?

Bruh... c'mon man. Don't do that. :ROFLMAO:. Do you realize how rare Aaron Donald is? That's like me telling my 5'8" 17 year old nephew that he can work hard and make an NBA roster, because Spud Webb did it.

Unless Paul Johnson comes out of retirement to bring back the Fullback position his best hope is….baseball

Usually OL is the last stop. Notice I said USUALLY. Basically by the time a HS player makes it to the OL there are no no other positions for him to try. He's probably tried em all in middle school... which is usually how he got to the OL in the first place. When a Big WRs get a little slower, we try em at TE, Big CBs, grow into Safety's. Bigger RB's are often converted to LBs (Gotta have that dawg in him, tho). Bigger LBs that are maybe a step slower than you want them normally...they usually go to DE. When TE's get a little big, or a little slower, we will also try em at DE, when DEs get to slow we move em inside to DTs, When DTs get too slow or too big, they're usually moved to OL. There usually ain't no coming back from the OL. There is normally no other place for a slow OL to go,..... other than the bench, :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: . It's the rule of progression... or regression... according to how you look at it. Of course there are exceptions to every rule.

I say this respectfully, but this kid isn't going D1 in either sport.

On a positive note its cool to see them be 5-0 in their second season as a varsity program, regardless of the lack of competition so far.

Tell the young man to focus on DIII schools with football pedigrees. Good luck to the young man.

On that squat video, he looks to be about the same size as the poster mentioned above….. around 6’0, 235lbs. Is that correct? If it is, please know that I mean NO disrespect when I say this. But Sir, no P5 coach is giving offers to any OL with those measurements. I’m pretty sure he’s a **** of a football player, and a great kid. He’s probably gonna make some lil gal, a great husband, one day…but if Mirabol can **** near look him in the eye, then he’s too short for a scholarship offer from the Canes, or any other D1 program, for that matter. I get it. I coach also. We all want the best for our kids, but unfortunately, when it comes to recruiting college football players, it’s a numbers game. If he was 6’3+ 265-270ish, then i'm sure some P5 school would give him a look, a few would probably pull the trigger, and give him an offer. With all the competition out here nowadays for football players, size will always get the benefit of the doubt, no matter the position, but especially on the OL. That said, there are some lower level college football programs out there, that would probably be able to take a chance on a smaller OL, if he wants to play college football.
I would actually have him practice the **** out of snapping a football and shoot for long snapper if he wants to try and play at a higher level. Its probably the one position he might be able to get some traction with at that size

He wont get a scholarship but if he excels at this specialized craft it could lead to a preferred walk-on offer and actually making a team. Assuming he gets really good at it and has some athleticism plus all those intangibles that were brought up.

Being from Northern VA, (if his grades are good enough) look into Washington and Lee. He could play both sports there.
