Rick Endorses The 8 Team Playoff Plan

Who isn't in this year that should be in?

You think if Ohio State had the same resume but wasn't a big boy name bluebood program that we'd all have just assumed they were a lock and untouchable despite not even winning their division?

They've more than proven that they're a legit program under urban Meyer, including this season. Who in your mind is more deserving of a spot than Ohio state?

I'm not even saying Penn State should be in BUT if it was let's say Arizona State with that resume and not Ohio State then the committee would've left the non-conf champion out. I absolutely HATE this much of a human element controlling things as there will always be biases and laziness. You yourself just made the point about Ohio State's reputation having been "established"- a point that involves factoring previous seasons and national historical perception of programs. I'm not comfortable with that. Again, we would absolutely get screwed by a committee like this if it's us with a similar resume vs any of the teams or conferences that are the beneficiary of media bias.

If you are undeafeated in division 1 you should get a shot in the 8 team system.

This gives the Boise States and Western Michigans of the world a chance.

Power 5 conference champions + 3 at-large bids would work for me.

I agree. Below is an old post I had.

4 teams [in reference to the current system]. 4 teams makes no sense. At best, one conference champion gets snubbed and that is at best. It should be 8 teams with 5/8 winning their conference championship. If 5/8 are tied to conference championships, you FULLY remove the human element from 63% of the playoff.

3/8 teams will need to be playoff eligible (12 games, 7 at most at home, required to play 8 conference games and 2 BCS/P5 non-conference games). The 3 best non-conference champions go to the playoffs (at most 2 per conference).

To Review:

- 8 team playoff
- 5 teams come from the conference championships (ACC, Big 10, Big 12, PAC 12 and SEC)
- 3 At-Large Teams
- 2 Maximum Teams Per Conference
- Independents are not eligible

To be eligible to make the playoff tournament, as an at-large team, you will need to do the following:

- 12 Regular Season Games
- A team must play 5 games on the road (no neutral BS can count) and 1/5 must be out of conference
- A team must schedule 2 of their 4 OOC games against BCS/P5 conference schools
- A team may schedule the other 2 OOC games against anyone

Use the BCS Poll to determine the other 3 Best Teams (remember 5 teams come from conf. champs):

- SOS
- Record
- RPI

-----

If you switch it to 9 games in conference, you drop a non-P5 game.

Another rule to float is that you must make your conference championship to be considered for an At-Large bid.

Your rants make me cringe sometimes; but this post is pure Gold.

You really can't get any better than this. This is it.

We need to stop giving this clown of a committee all this power based on bias. How is 4 is perfect? There are 5 conferences. If every conference has an undefeated season, then the system fails.

Best regular season in sports? Watching FBS vs FCS games is really exciting! I love waiting 7 days for these games. Those games need to go.

Is Michigan better than Ohio State? Well, we know Ohio State is 3 points better when they play at home. But what if Michigan played at home? What about if they played at a neutral field in a playoff?

College football could be great. It is better than it was in 2000, but it is far from perfect.

Any committee that'd have this goofy Gordon Bombay looking m-f'er as its head isn't worthy of deciding what the Feast will eat for lunch today.

If Arizona state had the same resume of Ohio state THIS season as a 1 loss team beating 3 top 10 teams, 2 being on the road, I wholeheartedly believe they would be in the same spot as Ohio state. Washington was in this exact spot until they faltered against USC, difference is they didn't have as many good wins so they stay in the 4 spot behind the teams that do in Ohio state and clemson.

Richt is a coach-- it's in his best interest to have more teams in a playoff. His opinion is meaningless. Eight games is too much and kills the best regular season is sports.

Four is perfect. Go back through history-- four solves every problem. Imagine if we had this system in 2000 or 2004. There will always be someone whining whether it is 4 or 8 or 16.

What makes college football great is that a random upset in October has the significance of a playoff game. Get rid of that, and you just have pro football with worse players and a band.

I mostly disagree with this. The regular season "random" upset mattered very little for OSU, because a group of people subjectively think they should be in there. At the VERY least, they should get the 4th seed for not winning their conference. One of the best 4 teams in the country can't even win the Big 10? come on.

I disagree. The playoffs in any sport is amazing and fun to watch. Losing one game would no longer kill your season. You are also forgetting about the teams who have got better over the course of the season.

3 teams with 1 loss are in the playoffs. In fact, every Power 5 team with 1 loss or less is in the playoff, those with 2 or more got left out like it should be.

2 Years ago the playoffs were:

Alabama
Ohio State
Oregon
Florida State

All of them entered the playoffs with 1 loss or less.

The following teams also had 1 loss

Baylor
TCU

------------------------

In 2013, the College Football rankings didn't exist but imagine if that 1 loss (entering the playoffs) was your standard:

1. FSU
2. Auburn
3. MSU
4. Baylor
5. Alabama
6. Ohio State
7. UL
8. UCF

A) You can't guarantee this satisfactory outcome (in your eyes) will be the norm.

B) You just made an argument for NEVER scheduling anyone good out of conference and thus advocated for damaging the regular season product---something the "keep it as it is" crowd supposedly is so concerned about.

If you are left out, you didn't do enough. You will have these same arguments in the 7-10 range.

Not true at all. Washington is lucky there weren't other 1 loss teams or they would be home right now.

Baylor and TCU were left out 2 years ago with 1 loss bc there non-conference game were: Samford, Minny, SMU, SMU, Northwestern ST, Buffalo.

Let's move it to 64 teams and have the regular season turn in the NBA
