I get that it is a crapshoot on whether a guy is good. And it is not about whether a player is a "disaster" in Year 1. Peyton did not have a solid offense behind him in Year 1.
It is the issue of taking a guy who has started THIRTEEN college games (something you can't say about Manning or Leaf) as a Top 5 pick and then acting like he won't be good or develop until his third year in the league. And we don't want to call him a "bust". And we should be "patient".
Leaf was a bust in Year 1 and Year 2 and Year 3 and in life.
Manning was a guy who was picked #1 by a very bad team that got very good as they built around him.
