Interesting. So he kept them status quo compared to what he inherited. Certainly not a ringing endorsement for him.

But his year at FIU and years at NM on the other hand have been clear improvements from what he received.

It's an interesting gamble. I'd do it, but I'm biased as **** when it comes to rich being that I worked for him at FIU that season.

This is what I have found!

I think he is having tremendous success at New Mexico this season. I think he is a very good mid major HC.

Pitino was all of 30 when he got the Minnesota job. The MWC is right up there with the Big East as the best non-P4 basketball conference in the country and he’s gotten New Mexico to the top of that league in short order.

You’re nuts to think he isn’t ready to be a successful high major coach

Part of the problem during his Gopher tenure was he couldn't keep the top players in the state. Ben Johnson, who was a cheap hire from the start, was supposed to be the hometown guy who can recruit but he's also failing keeping those top players home. MN has a fair amount of talent for bball. Fans were happy when Richard left, it was time, but he's a better coach than Johnson for sure.

Oh that’s dope! Appreciate the honesty.

My concern with Pitino is that, sure, he has won at NM, but so have other coaches (see Below).
While NM is not a perennial national power, they have a good basketball tradition with
good following from the locals.
When looking for prospective coaches, I would hope our decision makers not only examine
the numbers (ie., Wins/Losses), but how they've won at their school and if the "how" translates to succeeding at UM, which is a different animal than NM.

No it's not. The MWC is trash, the basura bin. That **** conference was exposed last season. Six teams made the field and none of them accomplished jack ****.

Meanwhile, the BE got JOBBED with a paltry three teams selected to the field. All three advanced to the elite eight, while UCONN won it all - again.

Big East was 10-2 (.833)

MWC was 4-6 (.400)

MWC accounted for twice as many teams, six fewer wins, four more losses... If they are up there with the Big East, then I don't know what to tell you.

Fair.

I would also expect Tubby Smith, with his resume and at that point in his career (post-Kentucky), to be a better and more accomplished coach than Richard Pitino was after all of one year as head coach at FIU.
