I think you take this dude because you need bodies. He's not going to make a dent in what we're going to pay for a "star" QB. Besides, there is a **** good chance we don't get someone better, then we're royally F'ed. Also, taking him wouldn't exactly scare off a top QB. Who is going to say, "****, they got that cat from Albany? I can't compete with that!"? Anyone?

I get it, he's no one's first choice, but we need bodies, and badly. The old saying, beggars can't be choosers. Well, we are fast becoming beggars. Landing this guy is less embarrassing than missing on ALL of them. Take him, then take another.

Smart pickup to buy time in case Lil Tua gets his waiver or if Cam decides to withdraw from draft and we still got a QB1 slot. And never know who enters spring portal. But in no way would he be ideal QB1 for first game.

By this standard we should only take McCarthy from Michigan or Penix from Washington.

If anything we should be more impressed that Taulia put up those numbers in a Josh Gattis offense. And, oh yeah, he beat Rutgers. Which QB on our current roster can make that claim?

I like the kid as QB2 (at least add competition with JB and JW). But I'm still going to call him WhatABurger until someone else comes up with a better nickname. His last name is begging for a nickname.

We also struck out with Jake Heaps and Ryan Williams, and both those guys played much better comp and had pretty good stats.

Finding a quality QB is both art and science. That's why you stuff the room until one emerges. Bring him on. But keep looking for that QB1.

No matter how this ends, Mario did about as poorly as possible handling all of this. I think (deserved) reputation of dog**** offense has been cemented.
 
So we all believe that is we take this kid it’s with the intentions of having a viable body in the room but an understanding that another qb will be coming in wether it be little Tua(with a waiver) or someone during the spring window. Who are some of the qbs you’d be interested in if we do end up going to the Spring window?

I think my list would include the following:

USF Byrum Brown
KU Jaylon Daniels
TXAM Jaylen Henderson
SMU Kevin Jennings

I get what you are saying and as I mentioned to someone else, I do not have an issue with this approach in theory. But apparently we have VERY limited roster spots — so much so that we do not appear to be aggressively pursuing DBs in the portal (and we desperately need DBs IMO). Not sure it makes sense to take this kid under the circumstances.
 
It's not like he's guaranteed the starting job. He's depth if nothing else. I don't understand why people have such strong feelings about him.

I am not ok with cats like this though. And that should never be the standard here, no matter who the HC or OC is. We need to get someone better, simple as that. I think we will. And if we don’t, Mario’s third year will likely be a trainwreck.

Most of the strong feelings stem from us skipping over eveyone else not named Ward and Howard. This is only the 3rd QB to publicly visit. Idc about secret visits please Do Not @ Me, this isn't for debate.

It's a crappy situation to be in. We do need DBs. However, QB is far and away the most important position on the team, and we desperately need competition there. It sucks. I'd much rather have the QB situation settled already, so we can do exactly as you said. Go after DBs.
