What makes you think they won’t? Ed Reed one of the best leaders all time in sports and is arguably the most respect db ever. This pessimistic thinking on this is really ridiculous

Because the program is a clusterf*ck from the top down. The culture is toxic. And it's not going to be fixed by Ed Reed, working in an undefined capacity when he doesn't have anything else to do, with no authority.

Reed's unquestionable greatness as a football player (and as a Cane) is irrelevant.

You think listening to Ed Reed is about whatever authority he has in the system? You think that's the point of having him around?

Reed is "that dude." That dude that has been exactly where they are. That dude that knows what it takes to get where they want to go. That dude that can tell them what they have to do to be successful at what they want to do because hes lived it and seen it. You go to Canton, OH and that dude's bust is up there with the greatest to have ever played the game because that dude is arguably the best to play his position.

If you legitimately think that the Ed Reed hire was because of whatever power he is going to have in the system and that none of the above paragraph is applicable, then you're complaining about pineapples when everyone else is talking oranges. Reed is here because of what he represents and what he can instill in these kids: greatness and what they need to do to achieve it.

Hopefully he will be here a lot during the season to watch practices and sit in on meetings. I look forward to seeing the impact he will make in the defensive game planning week to week. What little tendencies will he see in film study and pass along to the safties and corners.

Which would have created TREMENDOUS friction internally within the program. No one is good at their job with someone breathing down their neck waiting for them to make a mistake.

You all seem to think college football is the NFL. If you're an AD and you fire a coach in a bad situation after a year, it tells everyone in the coaching world "you won't get any patience." Who wants that in a job that pays below market rate?

I never said Highsmith was a bad candidate to join the program. He was a terrible fit for the job as it already existed -- massively overqualified and almost certainly too much money.

There was a job. Everyone wanted Highsmith in a DIFFERENT job.

No one on this board knows how much this hire may or may not help this program. I will give it a year before making judgements pro or con. I do see a lot of potential good.

I agree and that is why the idiots hired him. I just do not believe Ed will allow that to get in his way. Maybe I am just hooping against hope he will not, but he is not a normal person. Blake and Manny would not have hired him into a position that had any power, but some people have power without position. I believe Ed to be one of those. He is the only reason to have hope this year, because otherwise we just have the small idiots.

He isn’t going to be there a lot. He will give guys motivational speeches before games and he will stop by when recruits are visiting the campus. He is not allowed to be in the field coaching and he can’t be on the recruiting trail

So he said he won't be at The U 365 days a year, and from that you got "He only has to be there a few hours a week?"

This would be worse than basing your statement on literally nothing. You have something to base it on and drew a ridiculous conclusion from it.

If you read the second quote, it said he doesn’t have much responsibility. He doesn’t need to be there a lot. He just needs to be there before games and maybe when some big recruits come to campus

And again, how does this translate to "a few hours a week?"

Who says he won't sit in on position group meetings or film study? Who says he won't be participating in off campus activities with the players?

You're taking the parameters of his position and making huge leaps to assumptions about the level of involvement. You don't give someone the title of Chief of Staff for them to work 5 hour weeks.

Go back and read the job description and then explain to me how someone does that in a few hours a week.

I don’t think he is allowed to sit in the team meetings or film sessions. He is not a coach. He literally said himself the job doesn’t have a lot of responsibility. He is just their to motivate players.

These kids are not interested in Ed Reed or what he has to say. They aren't interested in what an incredible player he was. The OL didn't care when McKinnie came to practice.

The people interested in Ed Reed, and the reason why Manny/Blake attached his name to the program, are the ones they are trying to sell tickets to. This isn't rocket science.
