Recruiting?

The bipolar swing to "we suck again" is happening. Once we have most posters on that fence, another whale will commit to get everyone back to the "we are awesome" fence.
It ain’t bipolar if it’s been going on in front of our faces all summer.

Wake up and smell the coffee. I’ll circle back for Franklin’s commitment but that honestly should have been locked up after the BBQ. We better win eight-nine games.

And when that happens and we don’t flip 6 guys and everyone gets all pouty about why we didn’t despite winning…well then I guess we’ll all realize it’s pretty hard to flip kids from elite schools that lock it down in the summer eh? When you win the original recruitment, all those schools need to do is up a bag late.

I’ll sit back and observe.

You’ve been preaching the gospel all summer around this topic 👍

And I hope to God I’m wrong. I want us to go on some unprecedented tear late in August and be inching towards a Top 10 class, or for Mario to win 9 games and flip an absurd amount of guys. But let’s be realistic here. Besides the stats showing that doesn’t happen, or at least didn’t last year (unless NIL plays more of a factor this year, we’ll see), do kids really think Miami winning 9 games for one season means we’re back? That we’ve established a winning culture?

**** no. And those elite schools will use that to recruit against us. They’ve been winning for years. It’s going to take time to promise that. Let’s put down the green and orange cocaine that so many of you are still face first in. We’re a tier 2 school that needs to prove it more than any other program that we belong in tier 1.

That’s why I don’t think winning will fully solve the recruiting woes we’ve endured with the ‘24 class. Even if you add Franklin, Patterson, flip McCoy and add Ahfua, that number is good enough for like 16th last year. Let’s not forget there are plenty of other programs still keen on adding talent.

We’re going to have to dominate the portal for another year if we continue to trend like this.

I’ll add one thing. In truth, 8 games isn't “winning”. It might be for us due to an atrocious season we had in 2022, but not for everyone else.

I may stand alone but imo to have a “winning” team we need to annually average 10 wins.

I only bring this up as a means to temper folks expectations like we’re some juggernaut and should flip the teams annually winning 10/11 games a season because we had a 3 win improvement that brought us to a grand total of 8 wins lol.

If you are old enough to remember when this board would laugh at and tirelessly mock all the FU fans doing their late-Summer/early-Fall mock drafts that contained 3 or more flips, then you are at least 1 year old.

It's not so much "winning" as it is showing signs of life. There's a handful of elite recruits who like Miami but need to see this ship is headed in the right direction before singing here. If Miami has a decent 8-9 win season and is generally competitive, it will alleviate a lot of the concerns that some folks have about the program and Mario.
