Recruiting Top 3’s

This goes back years. We had people buying into Manny's hype on Derrick Smith or Thomas Davis. Or pre-CIS, remember Canestimes being all excited about Al Golden's football camp where we "discovered" Nate Dortch and Josh Witt. Fans will be fans.
To be fair to Witt he had to medically retire before he could take a snap for us.

Believe they didn’t exactly say he struggled just that he didn’t stand out and that foot speed maybe an issue. I think and im gonna use the board’s favorite term here in context, it all has to do with many calling him the best safety in the country and how he would end up a sure fire 5 star. Stubbs is a great get but he may not be a 5 star and just may actually be not even a top 100 player.

He is still a great get and one of the best if not best safeties in this class. The part that is a bummer is that our current issue in the secondary overall is speed so we were all hopeful he had addressed that aspect of things.
We have some speed in the class at DB. And will be more if we get hanks and Pickett. Idk how fast y’all think safeties are supposed to be

"mental processing speed/decision making". THIS!

I remember watching Kyle Wright. He had all of the traits you look for but couldn't process anything in front of him. I watch Bryce Young up here in Carolina. He's the same way. But again, if you just look at the hood and not lift it up to see what's under there, you get a wasted pick.
I mean Young literally has zero of the traits you look for, but yes he can't read an NFL defence either.

I’m wasn’t talking about the class I was talking about Stubbs and citing other posters that have seen him live.

You’re right. It was just one game. From what discussions I’ve had with a few other guys, he’s played like that in a few games.

That being said, I’ll amend my statement on the season vs what I saw in person.
Cribby shared your same sentiments in a recent post regarding Stubbs.

Wanted to put some thought I had on the 2024 class with roughly 50-days until these guys hold their commitments? I honestly don’t know what is going to be signed in a few weeks now that the NLI is null and void.

In any case, here we go…

Top 3 guys I think will significantly increase their composite rankings by the time they enroll.
1. Brock Schott
2. Tim Merritt
3. Daylan Upshaw

Top three guys I think will drop significantly by the time they enroll.
1. Drake Stubbs played poorly when I saw him live vs Bradford.
2. Antoine due to the injury (not participating in post season games)
3. Luke Nickel because 247 hates this kid for some reason.

Top three players in this class regardless of ranking.
1. Brock Schott will contribute as a Freshmens
2. TK Muex can play DT!
3. Girard Pringle will send someone in the RB room packing when he comes in January.

Three guys who aren’t as good as I thought
1. Gavin Nix
2. Drake Stubbs
3. Luka Gilbert

Not commenting on whether original post was negative or not, but if something is an opinion, it doesn’t disqualify it from being “negativity”. I would almost argue that all negativity is personal opinion about a situation or person etc.

Ivins said they do the rankings based off projections to the nfl not college which is dumb. He basically said there is no physical tools that really stand out about nickel. Said he has good mechanics and is accurate but his arm is only ok and his athleticism is towards the back of the pack among the high ranked qbs. Said he still think he will be a good college qb
It may be dumb but it makes sense. part of being a five star is that theyre projecting a kid to be an NFL First or second rounder and you do more often than not need those tools to get tot hat ceiling. I think it matters less for QB bc elite QBs can come in all forms. cam wasnt recruited at all but hes likely gonna be the best QB to ever play here.

Not slow, if they out here putting up 40 times like Kam and Williams did at the combine there’s a problem.

**** u the second person talking about Stubbs being not as good in person. That is getting me worried

Nothing to worry about. They watched the same game, it was a bad game sure, but now it’s being made out like he’s a scrub because two guys gave the same eval about the same game.

Machos team played against him last year and he came out raving about him.

Stubbs is a stud
