Recruiting Chatter - 12/9

honestly not sure why people are destroying the staff about recruiting when you put it into perspective with how the season went. I’d rather have top 10 class and gone to the ACc championship but here we are. All things considered. The wheels haven’t completely fallen off. Next year is make or break for this staff.
Because you're surrounded by idiots. Only a few of us are rational.

How exactly is he not?

We have the 11th ranked class by player average in a 6-6 season, say what you want about his coaching but clearly he sells the program well and relates to the kids if we have a good class after this ****hole of a season

The guy can sell for sure. I mean look at the majority of this board as of January of this year for example. We all wanted to believe so bad. The problem is that this will be the only recruiting cycle
that he can take advantage of the #TNM slogan . He’ll be full exposed next season and recruits won’t buy in any longer. Come in on a yacht and go out on a dingy will be the reality of this program.

Sounds an awful lot like last couple of years : I can deal with 2 and 3 star players if we had 5 star coaches: most teams get better as the year goes on, Miami seems to always flatline then fall if the cliff : you cannot even point to player development

Im a big critic on how this team was coached this year, however I’m NOT going to sh*t on this recruiting effort tbh , this class is still trending well overall especially considering the fact that we went 6-6 this year, what you all expect to hit on all of the targets? Just hope we finish this class the best we can, don’t reach for ANYTHING, and look for changes after the bowl game. I’m quite surprised we are recruiting this well despite how this season unfolded and that we haven’t lost any priority commits with the way this season has went in the 2020 class outside of Fleming. Don’t let the mopes fool you, this isn’t a bad class whatsoever and I’m the last 4 recruiting classes (2017,2017,2018,2019) it’s easily the 2nd best class behind the 2018 one and its not close tbh

In the portal we must trust.

Chhhhhhhhhhhhhit; what we do w the Portal this yr, bruh?
Tate played zero and didn’t get a fair chance, but at least it landed him a little baddie he done disappeared w to Gilligan’s Island. Lol.

Hill finally had some nice rotation in the latter 6 games.

The DT from UCLA was barely noticed.

Bubba Bolden finally got burn in what, game 4 or 5, then got injured.

Tommy K was a no show.

Jaelen may get some burn, next yr

For some reason, KJ stopped being our go to after the VT game, but at least we did start putting him on punt return

And JT4 was used less this yr than the yr he decided to leave the program.

Golden brought in multiple top 15 classes too. After **** hole seasons. While on probation. Top 15 classes should be a minimum expectation at Miami.

Shannon of all people brought in the #1 class after a 5-7 season.

What I'll give Diaz and staff credit for is they seem to do a better job of identifying lower rated guys who can contribute. Which is valuable for sure. But this class ranking is only evidence they're recruiting at a level we've come to expect.

There are some very good players in this recruiting class, and for that the staff deserves credit.

But there are also glaring holes in this recruiting class. The offensive line is atrocious and we are bringing in one player, Rivers, who goes to address that issue. He will likely start immediately. The other OL commits will likely never sniff the field.

We have seen the evidence for the need for speed at CB. It isn't coming in this class.

Finally, if you want to really change the game, you've got to land a blue-chipper on the final day where you weren't the favorite to get him. It's a tough standard, but it's how the great recruiters separate themselves from the merely good.

The Class of '20 is a good one, but it isn't a great one. It's complicated.

Can't argue with this..................

I liked the flashes bubba bolden showed, trevon Hill was a quality get and should have been starting game 1, Thomas misusage is on the staff. Jaelan Phillips imo is going to be a monster next year, Diaz mentioned him yesterday and he’s added weight. There are still talented gets out there and if they can help the team we need to go after them

Does it really matter who we get at this point? Not being snarky but honestly. Are they gonna complain about the youth soon as we get smashed by Wake? Sad times man.

I love the Canes ...those who know me from early scout and CIS know I love the Canes. I hate the leadership and what they have done to this once historic program. When I was young I would never in my life think the Canes could be killed and we are here now. It's almost like a dream to me that this happened.
I feel the same way. Been following this program for roughly 30+ years and I never thought I would see it struggle so mightily and becomes irrelevant on the national scene. I understood it when we were dealing with probation and scholarship reductions or the cloud of an investigation was hanging over us. But this is different. This is us becoming Wake Forest, Duke, etc. It’s killing me. Without the Schwartz and Soffer family one has to wonder if we would have anything when it comes to facilities. The BOT and leaders of this university just don’t seem to care.

Golden's number 10 class in 2012 was ranked 10 because it had 32 recruits, it's player average was .8789, would you really consider that a Top 15 class?

His 2013 class was ranked 14 with a .8840 average, decent

2014 ranked 12 but had 27 commits and a .8807 average

2015/2016 were disasters

Well said. This is what many of us thought we were getting when the staff was put together. It's not a staff built for recruiting. Knowledgeable fans knew that Enos and Stubblefield had poor recruiting reputations (Enos due to his personality...he's an a-hole). Berry was unproven with zero evidence of any prior recruiting acumen. Fields and Hickson showed promise based on their past and connections in the local community.

On the defensive side we added Stroud and Baker. It's too soon to tell if Baker can recruit or not. Probably not a high ceiling, however. Stroud is a solid technician, but not a recruiting monster. Diaz is mediocre at best. Patke? Sheesh, don't get me started. Rumph is a good coach and develops players but his recruiting is average. Banda is okay...just okay.

So, if the staff that was assembled can't recruit, and after one season shows that they can't coach either, what good are they? You sign very good players by either hiring a monster staff of recruiters (see Taggart and F$u) or by winning consistently. We can't do either right now.

Tommy K was NOT a no show.

I saw him cheering from the sidelines in EVERY game.

MAJOR difference maker.
