Recruiting chat 12/5

Why isn't Vero Beach WR Mike Smith not getting a look. 67 receptions 1,561 yards, 24 TD's this year. Plus he's 6'3" and 215lbs. I've seen him in person 4 times this year and he is about as legit as it gets.

His best offer on Scout is UCONN, and on 247 it's Indiana. It doesn't look like any of the major programs are looking at him hard yet, though according to 247 ND is starting to take an interest. Vero traditionally produces pretty good talent. What's the low down on Smith? He has size, and obviously produces, how fast is he?

This is mind boggling , his film blows a lot of higher rated guys film away. Kid is big, runs good routes , good speed and soft hands.

Seems like the cat that goes to a smaller school and ends up stud. Kinda like the kid at W Michigan.

I was there when he constantly got behind Amari Carter. He torched PB Gardens for 3 40+ yard TD's. Randy Bethel is the DC so you'd figure UM would at least come look at him. I was told by another coach on that staff today, he's gonna end up at UCF.

Don't think so

This baffles me. It also scares me because I don't think McFarland is that impressive.

Umm....what?

Let me clarify: McFarland is a nice AP back, but I put him in the same stack as Walton. Good but not elite. I'm obviously in the minority here. I still think (counting the guys projected in this class) that Homer has the most upside among the backs on the roster.

Before his injury bama was on this kid hard as fuq. If we get our problems fixed on the OL walton homer mac and burns will be able to run through it. I think mac is alot like homer and walton.....hes as explosive as homer if not more and is like walton with way better vision

Hope so and I may be way off. Haven't scrutinized all the film out there on the kid. But to me, he does not look nearly as explosive as Homer, who has that rare natural glide when he runs.

Biggest thing with Mac is that he has legit speed along with being a bowling ball. Didn't he run a 4.5 at 206 at the opening? Also he can catch out the backfield. At 5'9 he is already as big as Duke was his junior year here. This is gonna be a kid that if he stays healthy will be a problem. Think Darren Sproles....

Thanks, Pete, that was amazing intel. WR is obviously most baffling. Would love to see Smith commit or more names emerge soon there. One question: Does Njoku staying or leaving impact McKitty one way or another?

I think the biggest reason most aren't too excited about Burns has also got to be his injury history. Constantly getting hurt means you wont do ****. He is without a doubt taking a RS yr imo. Dude needs to get completely healthy and stronger so he doesn't continue getting hurt.

Didn't Frank Gore have injury issues in HS too? I know he did in college but it turned out alright [emoji51]

And those injuries carried over in college. He was supposed to be the starting RB for us in 2002. Had he been healthy we win the championship.
But comparing Frank Gore, the best RB to ever come through Miami to Robert Burns is a little silly.

Just using a comparison on injury prone guys not skill set

Does anyone know what Burns injury is?

Fwiw, I do not recall Gore being injury prone at gables.

He has an extremely bad ankle injury when Gulliver played up here in Orlando. I was at that game and he took the opening kickoff back to the house. His coaches wanted to make sure he wouldn't further damage his football career by having him play. Plus that Gulliver team was really young and wasn't going to do much this year.

1. McFarland
2. Homer
3. Burns

That is the "burn" order going forward.

McFarland is a top 5 National Back and has NFL starter upside. Anyone who thinks otherwise is clueless. Best RB we have signed since Duke by far if he comes.

Yep!
