Ray Lewis Retirement Good for U Recruiting?

It seems to me that Lewis' retirement announcement and his comment that he wants to be there to watch his boy play fotball can only be good news for Miami recruiting given Jr's standing commitment. As mentioned in other posts if Sr. shows up on the 18th (Depends on how the Ravens have done by then) with Jr. for his official visit that would have an obvious and immediate impact.

Beyond that wouldnt you expect Sr. to be "around the program" and/or even coaching/advising? Wouldn't it be popssible he does a little recruiting at HS games? At a minimum he is one the sidelines at games and practices.

I cant believe his boy pulls a Barry Sanders Jr and goes anywhere else as that would be stunning.

This has to be good for the U. agreed? Any downside?

I think he would be a great LB Coach.

I for one am a huge supporter of bringing back as many former players as possible and just assembling a staff out of them with Golden overseeing everything. Ex: Force Rolle and Reed into retirement and make them the DB coaches. Force Shockey and Olsen to retire, TE coaches. Ken Dorsey and Steve Walsh as the QB coaches. Edge as the RB coach. Get Wilfork's massive *** to retire and become the DL coach along with Sapp. Michael Barrow, Randy Shannon and Ray Lewis as the LB coaches.

I'm confident Ray will have closer ties to the program because of his son and clearly that will be a good thing. Not that it will trump buckets of money, but Reuben Foster has repeatedly singled out Ray Lewis as the LB he most admires. And yes I expect him to be on his son's visit if he's not still playing football.

I seriously believe the Ray Lewis recruiting for us is one of the most overblown statements made by Canes fans. I'm pretty sure that would be an NCAA violation.

Think the OP meant on the sidelines recruiting for us as a member of the staff. I couldn't imagine it happening any other way.

He obviously can't actively recruit kids but a handshake and 5 minute conversation with the greatest MLB to ever play in the NFL is definitely a good thing, especially when the recruit is a linebacker. Alum of the school, kid is on the football team. I have to believe Ray will just happen to "run into" a kid here or there.

Would it be a violation if he was there on the 18th with his son and he started talking to recruits? Not being a wise ***, i really don't know the answer.

it cant be anything but a positive. One of the greatest players in NFL history and one of the great orators of his sport is going to constantly be around the program.

Right and I'd agree with that but I don't think that would make a huge impact on a recruits decision.

I wouldn't think so but like you I have no idea. My guess is no cuz it's a visit with his son.

Having Ray there on the 18th couldnt hurt But it wont make some kids decision

+1

Hard to understand this thread. The most inspirational player from UM in the past 20 years, and his presence wouldn't make a difference? I understand the recruiting violation on the 18th, but don't downplay his signifigance. Most of these young cats grew up with him the best MLB in the game!! He wouldn't even have to say a word, just be seen.

Your saying if he talked to a recruit for 5 minutes just bumping into him that would make a huge impact to the recruits decision? I think the recruit would be star struck like most kids and that's about it.

I don't expect him to actively recruit anyone, but take a look at Manti Te'o's twitter today and you'll see the type of admiration Lewis garners.

He said multiple times today he promised his son if he ever received a full scholarship he'd be at every game. He was in Golden's office when the offer was extended. Drove home the point about being there for his sons. If the Ravens are bounced, I have to think he'll accompany his son on the trip.
