I am big fan of game and if Dawson leaves for a HC job then he OC, Joe Craddock should be high on the list to replace him.

And this would have Mateer as by far the best option available as @Memnon has been saying pretty much. Haven't watched Ethan Vasko, but I know he grades very highly as well by PFF in some categories. Brendan Sorsby is good too. Also if Miller Moss is pushed out of USC, he's played well.

Biggest problem with Mateer is his OC is going to be a hot name this offseason for bigger programs looking for a new OC.

Unless the OC isn’t hired away until after the December portal window closes, I would put my money on Mateer going wherever his OC goes.

If OU gets Mateer, I’d check into Arnold. He looked good enough for OU to say “thanks, but no thanks” to Gabriel.
OU just blew it by bringing in Littrell to be the OC (remember when he was a hot name?) - they also got hit pretty bad w/WR injuries early on.

I’m just not seeing a lot of game changer qbs in this year’s portal, barring something crazy.
And I’m not even talking about someone on Cam’s level.

I think it will be hard to find someone that would even compare to Gabriel, Will Howard or even Riley Leonard.

Lot of the names being thrown around wouldn’t even be guaranteed to beat out Emory. Not sure if you all really see something in some of the qbs being tossed around or if we are trying to talk ourselves into thinking they will do well.

Also, I go back to last year and we reportedly got JS the night before signing day. Knowing he was a generational talent, I’d be interested to know how much more did we offer him than OSU - if OSU upped their offer on signing day to beat out or get competitive with our offer, than we messed up by not blowing up our internal salary cap.

Just think if Cam had been throwing to JS this year. Then I think you would have some legit top shelf QBs be intrigued on playing with JS for the next 1-2 years. Would have opened more doors at the very least.

We have proof of concept with Cam, but there are some circumstances that may/may not be the same next year… Will Dawson be here? Will Horton be here? This year, Cam had 5 srs or likely draft eligible wrs/tes to throw to. We won’t have that level of experience next year.
