QB recruiting in the aftermath of transfer gate

No, we don’t, but the fact that there are some pretty strong rumors out there that they’re trying to poach current QBs, leads me to believe that they don’t have confidence in what they have in their QB room right now.

Sure.

But that’s a separate point from the “Bama shows that landing elite prospects at QB every year doesn’t guarantee a hit at QB” point being made.

Caleb Williams in 2021 was clearly a hit at QB. It was obvious he was going to live up to his 5* ranking.
But Caleb Williams was still an underclass man, and not ready to be a NC worthy QB in 2021. He was more like a 4* level college player, that was going to become a 5* with more experience.

All we can say right now is that Bama probably doesn’t feel like any of their young guys are ready to be 2022 Caleb Williams. That doesn’t mean they haven’t landed their Caleb Williams though.

The point was never that you should ignore HS recruiting. It was that HS QB recruiting is way more erratic than other positions, and you should focus on signing toolsy, high upside HS QBs (like Van Dyke) with the Portal as a backstop instead of allocating all your resources to brand-name recruits at a position that goes bust so frequently.

Remember, we didn’t beat out Alabama for Van Dyke out of high school. We beat out Syracuse.

And I haven’t watched Bama’s QBs this spring, but if they stink, Saban took too long to evaluate his own roster. Devin Leary and Sam Hartman are very good college players who could have excelled with Bama’s personnel.

I have a hot take about Bama , I see three loses and suspect qb play in their future. Imo the D will be fine but mixing in two new coordinators , Rees being meh , and mixed with the the skill guys not looking as dynamic as the past it could be not so typical Bama year. They’ll revert back to more pounding the rock , using the zone read and playing defense. The West will be a dogfight and LSU likely wins it Imo. I wouldn’t sleep on Ole Miss and Arkansas making a little noise.

Alabama fans are going to want Tommy Rees fired in year one. They’ve already gotten a taste of what a great offense is. They’re not going to be happy going back to “pound the rock, bro”. Especially when they go 9-3.

Man i have been sayin they have been mid for a couple years now…Saban being who he is and Bryce being amazing has saved them so much, their WRs aren’t like they have been in their elite teams. They've been so mid in the trenches for their standard since after 2020, and seeing uga’s formula I think i see why saban is like *** the lane influenced run with a more traditional spread im gonna bog it down because we’re losing our edge. Just look back at this year and 2021 especially, the teams they are in fights with are crazy like 5-7 lsu and uf challenged them when their coaches were basically fired, 5-7 auburn took them to ot lol, ***** austin peay kept it close in bama bruh

I can see 3-4 losses I wouldn’t be surprised at all

I watched the first half of the Bama game yesterday. At the beginning of the broadcast, the tv announcers talked about how Rees was learning the offense and terminology as well as the players. They said that Saban was looking for a QB developer, not just an OC. It sounded like Rees would be implementing a system already in place. The said the same about Kevin Steele.

Neither QB was helped by the guys around them. Their WR were dropping balls all over the place; Burton and Bond dropped a couple each. Justice Haynes was the star of the show .... Saban spoke very highly of him in his post game remarks..

Said the same thing yesterday. Milroe has exceptional legs (pause) but leaves a lot to be desired as a passer still. Simpson isn’t ready. Both don’t fit Rees’s system at all. Their WR room still isn’t good enough to get consistently wide open and create those larger passing windows with more margin for error. Burton dropped like three passes.

I’d be shocked if they don’t continue to go all-out for a QB in the next week or so. Ohio State too.

You knew he was a bad hire for them given that Mario really wanted rees

Arkansas went from Briles to Enos on offense. I’m going to go ahead and sleep on them this year.
