3 year starter with the WRs we’re bringing in. Not a bad ideaIf we miss out on Ward for some odd reason, give Nelson the bag

He was probably promised to start by year 2 and now Riley went to the portal and grabbed another QB. Means in his eyes (Riley) Howard is a better QBWhy would Nelson leave cause of a 1 year rental? Kids these days
But but but you guys told me USC didn’t really want Howard bc they had Nelson.
Malachi Nelson probably has the better upside long term than Howard, but after a disappointing second year, Lincoln Riley can't afford to go through the growing pains of a young, 1st year starter at qb. This is why he went after Howard. This is kind of a make or break year for Lincoln Riley. He was probably promised to start by year 2 and now Riley went to the portal and grabbed another QB. Or kids these days don’t want to ride the bench for 2-3 years.I'm curious if he sucks, wants PT, or if they can't afford his NIL payments at the same time as matching the bag market that the Canes set for Howard.
Minus 2Miami can win 10 games with KJ.
I hear you, but winning now > all else. Some of these coaches gonna let the portal be a detriment to their program eventually. You have a 5 star QB on your roster I’m his second season with a full off season to have him ready and you go for a 1 year rental and lose him?!
That’s true but at some point you have to break the one year cycle especially at a position like QB.I hear you, but winning now > all else.
It’s definitely not ideal, and I definitely hope we have a QB by spring. But with the way these kids are, and the transfer portal/NIL, it’ll be some QBs available after spring too once starters are announced. Not saying the quality will be good though. Here’s one completely unsourced possibility.
We have a much larger offer on the table for Ward than FSU.
Ward is enamored by corn row’s QB track record and FSU’s success (this is stupid, since our supporting cast is much better positioned for the future). He’s waiting to see if FSU can muster the funds to get in the ball park with our offer.
Some funds might free up after signing day if any of FSU’s top commitments flip (e.g. Bolden). Maybe FSU said they’ll come back with a counterbag after signing day, which is why Ward’s camp keeps floating the “Christmas” timeline.
Mario is doing a poor job managing this process imo. Howard seems USC bound. And Ward is weighing his options. If he choses FSU, we’ll be caught with our pants down.
