QB competition

Did I miss anyone's post who has actually been at more than one practice?

Budda, I don't agree with your statement about Williams last year. I'm going with what dk72 said. Can't recall many opposing QB's last year who performed worse than Morris. He may have been a greentree all-american but he sucked on Saturdays. I can't recall a worse 3rd quarter QB at the U, or one who shunned contact as much. Well, not many, I just had a flashback of Jacory Harris failing to make it in from the one. :ohlord:

Posters on this board don't give credit to guys who were his backups. Like Morris those guys started at their HS teams, they didn't all forget how to play the position or learn how to choke on 3rd down. They may not have the magnificent occasional display of an NFL arm, but there had to be at least one who had a heart, a mind, and a previously demonstrated ability to move the sticks. If not why are they on the team?

And like dk72 said I don't think that Williams suddenly had an epiphany that put him in the lead to start. Any one of the QB's on the roster (er, student athlete list) is capable of playing at or above the level of Morris last season. They may not be able to make the 70 yard+ throw two or three times a game, they may not set records, but they are capable of making a third down play at least as well as SM's horrific record. If we learned anything from him is that big numbers don't always lead to winning big games.

We can opine all we want about William's ability to lead this team to a better record than last year, or if Olsen or Kaaya is ready to replace him. Either he performs or he doesn't.

So again here are some questions:

Is there anyone on this forum who has attended a significant number of practices (3+) who can inform us on how the QB's in spring practice are performing and competing?

Or, if there is NO COMPETITION is it because one player is the clear winner, or are the coaches not paying any attention to anyone other than the guy getting all the reps? Or, what is it that I'm not asking?

If no one posting here has attended enough practices to form more than a first impression, is there anyone who has inside contacts who can tell us how the competition or non-competition is playing out, and maybe why?

I have been to 3.....I stand by my statement...Williams moves the team with less mistakes...does he go 15 for 15 300+ yards in 3 drives no but I am sure you think he should...Olsen is where HE wants to be number 1b with a smart guy in front of him teaching him to control the game, read the Defenses and learn....Olsen will be the guy but not right now..

If Kaaya is as good as people suggest, Olsen is going to be lost in the shuffle. Doesn't start this year, gets blown out next year by Brad.

This is his opportunity to stake his claim to the starting lineup.

Guys, Somehow I think that it's in everyones best interest that Williams is being given every chance to start his senior year. Golden and staff are on the fan bubble even though they probably have a couple of more years of job security. He' going to field the qb that gives him the best chance to win. He also has a great talented kid coming in the fall with stars in his eyes. Why pour water on his enthusiasm by enshrining Olsen now sending the message that he's coming cross country to sit on the bench for three years. Name Williams the leader out of spring saying all the right things and let all three duke it out in the fall. Maybe that's what they are thinking.
