Proof of Randomness in College Baseball

Any thoughts on why the great post-season manager loses so often to lesser seeds?

The use of "lesser seeds" when meeting in Omaha is a silly argument.

I've already said I don't care about the Columbia and Boston College losses when those teams advanced.

The significant ones were 2012 and 2014. Those are fair criticisms (although take way too far by people like you).

To complain about the others, like Oklahoma State in a 2 vs. 3 game in 2013, is also silly.

Who cares how we advance to Omaha, as long as we advance. If we had to play BC, it is because they beat a team that was comparable to us.

How does someone decry 2 Omaha appearances in 3 years, and a top 4 class matriculating this summer.

Seedings are definitively more biased than NCAA basketball because geography plays a role.

Since 2009, how many other teams made Omaha more than twice?

College World Series comparison, last 10 years

Appearances
SEC - 24
ACC - 20

^^That's where any similarities come to an end.

Record against non-conference opponents in CWS
SEC - 51-33 (.607)
ACC - 26-37 (.413)

Finals appearances
SEC - 11
ACC - 2 (Thanks, Virginia!)

Titles
SEC - 5
ACC - 1 (Thanks again, Virginia!)

Pretty much the definition of overrated. The ACC gets there nearly as often because the inflated RPI gives us an unfair advantage in the regionals and Super Regionals, but then we show our true colors in Omaha.

Just a quick count, but it looks like 13 programs have been to Omaha 3 or more times from 2009-2017. Another seven programs made it twice each. So we're in the second-tier group that ranges from 14-20.

The good news here is that we have been able to fight off Kent State, Indiana, and Stony Brook who each had one appearance. That's clutch, and great post-season managing.

I show 13 teams making Omaha 3x since our 2008 team, and 6 others making it twice.

Of the 36 teams that made Omaha since 2009, only THREE were private schools (8.33%). Am willing to wager that the 8.3% declines markedly if one utilizes the field as a whole, but that is way too much work. National seeds make it to Omaha roughly 25%-40% of the time. Morris is one of three private schools that remains competitive. Stanford and USC, with marked advantages over UM, can no longer consistently compete with the public schools. We will see if if Vanderbilt can continue......

If one narrows the sample down to the past three years, Morris remains in highly select company and elite.

Depending on all criteria, Morris could be anywhere from a top-3 to top-19 coach, which is what I have been saying since last year. Scholarship limits matter (look at the raw data).....

We will see how the team fares during 2018. Not sure how anyone can fault this performance. Even Fraser only managed two titles (and within a 3-year span...).

Excuses are the lies we tell ourselves. Morris is paid to win period. He knows the pitfalls. If he cannot make it to a Regional at UM that is an issue. Texas had the winningest coach in baseball and transitioned him out last season with one year remaining. Yes, he was doing worse than Morris, but there was an issue, and they felt another year was too long to wait. We should be of the same mindset. The streak is over, Morris only has one year left, time to move on with a new coach.

Even Fraser only managed two titles (and within a 3-year span...).
Seriously, you want to try to liken the coach that saved Miami baseball and started the streak with the coach that ended it? Morris was a great coach, but he is not the Wizard.

Titles? We stopped expecting titles at Miami a long time ago. We just won a bowl game for the first time in ten years and we now have a baseball program that loses home regionals and misses the tournament completely.

Typical stupidity from the gnome.....

If Morris missed the NCAAs in 2014, then "yes".

Morris won 44 games in 2014, made Omaha in 2015 AND again in 2016 and THEN missed the tournament.

Gnome is a 'Nole and he forgets 2015 and 2016....

Based on a 9-year sample, then Morris is the 13th-to-19th best coach in the NCCAs, based on a 4-year sample then Morris is top-5. Asinine. At least be accurate. If you focus on 2017, you HAVE to include 2015 and 2016. Another "one off sample size".

Fraser won 2 title, as did Morris. Gnome's lack of intelligence is glaring. Moron! Guy was thrilled with 2017 because he looked like a moron for 2 straight years. This is why he is a concierge in Key West (truth hurts buddy, but it is the truth)! Your degree is worthless because you lack basic skills, not because of UM.

People who struggle to make points have to use insults in every post. Anyone notice which member uses insults in every post? When you're 65, single, and lying about your career, I guess this is the only form of entertainment.

You go ahead with those regular season win totals and free trips to Omaha while ignoring home regional losses and missed tournaments.

Two trips to Omaha in nine years. He will finish his career with two trips to Omaha in 10 years. He should've hung it up a while ago.
