I’ll be announcing after the Miami visit,” he said. “I visited Ole Miss and UCF, they were nice, and just went to Illinois. And my top two is Illinois and Miami.”


He says the task for UM’s coaches this weekend are to make him comfortable with this being a talented overall defense. He doesn’t want to be part of a group that doesn’t succeed overall.

“I don’t want it to be just me (making plays),” Brantley said.

So then what happens to Zaquan? Are they recruiting over him already? I know there always needs to be competition in every room but in this portal age it seems to be difficult to keep kids around if they aren’t starting or at least playing heavy snaps.

I’d guess it’s Zaquan and Poyser at safety, Damari at Nickel, OJ/Brantley/Lucas at CB.

Still need another safety that can spell them and a Nickel to spell or compete with Damari. Cross training probably has Damari/Lucas able to play Safety as well. Dylan Day in the 2nd string and if Markeith sticks around.. that’s your DB room right there.

Plenty of snaps to go around to your top 3 boundary corners. Brantley has never finished a season healthy in college.

On paper at least....it sounds like a much-improved unit. If Mesidor comes back and we hire a quality DC, the defense could be significantly better next year.
