Well Anthony Campbell might just have that extra year as of right now....
This is interesting tbh. Not because he's super valuable as a player. But players like him, who spent 2 years at a JUCO and took a redshirt once they move up, will be 21-22 years old as redshirt freshmen. Some will be 25 year old Sr. That's a much different body type than an 18 year old true Fr. There's gonna be a lot of Cam McCormicks in the future.

Key point here- Miami has been playing from behind at DT due to poor recruiting under Manny and two bad cycles to start the Mario era. We rebounded with a strong '24 haul, and Ahmad Moten and Josh Horton are trending the right way.

Because the young guys have the body types and athleticism they want, the staff targeted a premium NFL-type guy instead of throwing numbers at the position again.

Good. These “whale” recruits need to play

Miami landed one of the fastest rising defensive linemen in the nation with the commitment of Louisiana Tech DT David Blay.

A four-star Portal prospect, Blay made First-Team All-Conference USA this season with 46 tackles, 10.5 TFLs, and 6.5 sacks. He was particularly dominant against Arkansas, with 5 tackles, 2 TFLs and a sack. One source said he was “the best player on the field” against the SEC opponent.

The 6’4, 303-pound Blay is a native of the Philadelphia suburbs. He originally signed with D2 West Chester as a 6’2, 280-pound unrated prospect. Blay blossomed after a redshirt year, with 39 tackles, 13 TFLs and five sacks. He then transferred to Louisiana Tech, where he made 16 tackles as a redshirt sophomore before his breakout junior campaign.

Blay earned a 76.9 run defense grade from PFF, and a 64.7 pass rush grade. The Canes targeted a premium DT to pair with homegrown talent in Ahmad Moten, Justin Scott, and Josh Horton.

Blay chose Miami over Penn State, Oklahoma, USC and Illinois.

Elite elite elite movement ability for a man his size. There's areas for improvement too.

I hope it translates with a step up in competition.

Are we looking at any speed rusher defensive end types? We need someone who can come off the line and get to the qb in a hurry especially on 3rd down
