President Shalala

all the hate toward her is because of the stadium issue, which wasn't really her fault

wrong.stadium, plus her neglecting of sports, plus her making it harder to get into UM, plus her all her bad hires (then leaving them around too long)..take away all of that and she is ok

LMAO at this post. Just exit the thread.
ok ****boy but before i do so, just let me know..are those points not accurate?

The one about making it harder to get into the university so people like you can't attend is, but other than that, no. Bye.

Why are you mad she made it harder to get in? I think it was over the last few years that UM finally passed UF in academic rankings. Because of her, Golden can tell parents they are the highest rated institution in the state of Florida. A lot of times, he can say Miami is better academically than most schools he's going up against, regardless of location. That plays huge to parents.

That's if you're looking at it just from the athletics side of things. Let's not forget that is also her main job and focus - improving the university academically.

all valid points, however i am a die hard Cane because of Sports. I know this will sound shallow but i could care less about Academic rankins (and im surely not in the minority).

I'm all for non-alumni fans but, the academics of the school are just as important as the athletics. High academic rankings add prestige to the []_[] and gives us one more thing to gloat about when we whoop another schools *** in a sport. Being a fan of the []_[] means being a fan of all things Miami. The standards that our athletes must meet are minimal in comparison to what the academic students need to qualify for certain programs like Music, Architecture, Marine Bio, etc.

Do everyone on the board a favor and refrain from making posts about academics if they do not interest you because on this board it appears you are most definitely in the minority.

yeeeaaaah I'll second this.. a highly ranked privet university with small class sizes you can't get any better than that unless you attend IVY league (which is where Shalala is aiming for). YOU may not care about the academics, but the recruits do.

It is one of the big disconnects within our fanbase. Most school's fans are either alumni or family of alumni. UM's is more of market-based fan base as opposed to an alumni-based fan base. For people like me who did not attend UM, I could not care less about UM's academic standing. I care only about its sports teams.

The real comedy in my opinion comes from the older UM alumni. The guys who graduated in the "Suntan U" days. Those are the ones who really like to babble about UM's current academic standing. lol

Shalala is the most reviled individual on Canes message boards. For someone who hates UM athletics as much as the message board clowns claim she does, she sure goes out of her way to help our corches recruit. She's also giving Alshermond everything he needs to succeed.

You can be sure that she'll be there this weekend and that she'll make her presence known and help us immeasurably.

Stop it chise our fake half fans might learn something.

People are unable to understand this for some reason.

It's the reason my boy is there (from California) good academics AND strong sports.

That and 30 for 30

few other schools like us that are private, top class universities with great football programs: USC, ND, Stanford.

Nuttin' more fun than throwing spit balls at the pompous and presumptious ;-) tolerati, eh!

That said, I appreciate that the hobbit takes the time to attend sports events and to meet and great (also greet). She is easily identifiable (as long as your nose is not too high in the air--I just crack myself up). This makes a big difference to those who worship celebrity. I believe this is a big plus on OV's.

She also makes me feel pretty... Shalala, la, la, la, la, la, la lah... and tall. ;-)

time will tell with DS and what she has done for the School...no doubt Miami is a great institution..Harvard of the South some say.
Her purchasing the hospital with all the money raised and it purging money faster than Manto's face book friends was questionable..again time will tell

when the letter from the NCAA gets here we shall see, so far, two bowls vacated , one ACC champ game vacated, several bad hires, reduced schollys ( starting), multiple suspensions in Mens BB and Football all at bad times... FB, last post season game win was Nevada...Mens BB two appearances in 10 years in the show, what could be the worst scandal to hit Miami ever under her watch..not her fault kids are idiots either like Ray Ray..

Katie M was a great hire and not giving up on Morris was probably a great decision.

Again Miami is a GREAT school and I have no issues on her raising the bar, the Mens BB is looking great, Football is so close to turning the corner and I hear the baseball team has a great shot at the ACC title...

So you can find good and bad with her, like any school. Not sure she has all these connections you think she does that can help us with the NCAA, maybe a table at a great restaurant but the NCAA as well all know beats to a different drum..

I doubt our fan base is different than most other teams. What percentage of Notre Dame fans or Duke hoops fans have ties to those places? How many Penn State or Ohio state fans are alumni of those schools?

How dare anyone speak out against the almighty president shalala. What are we brutes? do we not realize football is way less important than academics? yes she has raised standards and that may hurt us with local inner city kids, but who needs them anyways.

Nor do you care for her physical appearance, you've made your erroneous, childish and irrelevant points to the thread loud and clear. As for the only point that might appear valid, her bad hires, the AD is ultimately to blame for that for bringing in a lame list of candidates.

And she had nothing to do with arguably the worst hire made over the last dozen years: Larry Coker, who destroyed all momentum Butch had built and, more importantly so, did so over six long yrs.

And if you fault her for Shannon and Haith hires then you have to credit her for the Larranaga and Golden hires.

USC, Stanford and others have been able to build top fb programs with high academic standards, but at the end of the day people like you would rather let the fb cart lead the academic horse at universities like FSU because you really have no clue what goes on at this level.
