Post Game Plus/Minus

PLUS:
1. Enter Sandland making his Shockey'esque debut. Count on him making plays all year from here out.
2. Coley catching the ball 12 times on 3 receptions. I think toward the end he finally got that mental bug out of his system when he ran up and caught that punt clean. Expect him to make big football plays from here on out.
3. Williams looked like a surgeon. He knows where to go with the football, and he's got a quick release. Big bang and it's out of his hand.
4. Al Gall gettin' his maul. Maul Gall is a mean dude. They stopped running behind him at the end of the game because they didn't want to score any more points. They were trying to run the clock out without scoring, and Gall was pushing stool in 10 yards down the field.
5. Gus Bus is our 2nd best RB, but fck him because he's from NYC, and those dudes can't play up there.
6. Coley is so much more athletic and fluid than our other WRs. He's the Duke of the WR corps.

MINUS:
1. Savannah State doesn't always tackle, but when they do, they will injure you. Seemed like every time one of our guys went to the ground they came up gimpy.

They had Tonya Harding in disguise at OLB.

++1 on your #2 - catching the ball 12 times on 3 receptions Hah

Plus: Corey Chavous.

Can we get this dude to do all of our games? Rarely do you see an announcer this well prepared. I was impressed by him.

He knew his X's and O's for sure, but he messed up a lot of names and his personnel info wasn't always accurate (Gunter getting pushed by a bunch of younger guys?)

Did you not notice that Gunter was co-first team with Artie Burns in the last depth chart?

Not really his fault, that's the spotters job to help with that info and they have the c team working with them.

True, and I'm sure ESPN didn't send their best spotters to this game.

Chavous is straight up legit. He was obsessive over this stuff when he was still in the league, has been a guest on NFL draft shows and I bet he'll be a quick riser. Mayock and Chavous bring a Safety perspective to the booth - which means they see the entire field and all the pieces at once. I was at the game, so I didn't get to listen, but I'll look forward to it. I can see Chavous making a jump to a higher profile and eventually get back into operations.

The crowd booed in unison when the public address announcer said that both teams had agreed for the 4th quarter to be shortened. I booed among the loudest of all. Matchups at the extreme are among the most intriguing in sports. If we're playing Alabama I want to see how we stand up to them for 60 minutes. Same at the other extreme tonight. That final quarter was a farce, a disgrace. Golden was literally calling Crow toward the sideline before every play so he would waste the play clock and have to rush toward his teammates in the final seconds, with no chance at a coherent play. There were intentional delay of game penalties, a declined delay penalty against Savannah State, and our quarterback and running back were all but bumping into each other at the snap to disrupt the play. IMO, that type of thing is more of a slap at Savannah State than playing it our normally. Most disgusting of all, we initiated it in the second quarter, not the fourth quarter, allowing the clock to wander away with no attempt to add to the 49-0 margin.

In short, I hope I never see another matchup like this again. We became the Gators for one night and took it to an extreme that even they never manage, although I have no doubt Foley is in negotiations with Savannah State.

It was a valuable game for Coley, including returning kicks. That was the only benefit I detected. It was amusing that we had our returners positioned at standard depth early in the game, even though Savannah State had been averaging 30 yards per punt. Finally we figured it out and moved Coley 35 yards behind the line of scrimmage, then up another 5 yards to 30.

I'm typically not cynical but our entire defensive line was standing around and looking toward the sideline on the play Savannah State scored its only touchdown. It had reached 63-0 before that play. We weren't even close to being set and several of us in the stands were wondering if it wasn't an intentional head start for them. For one thing, it's much easier to propose the shortened 4th quarter if they have already scored. The pride factor kicks in if you are shut out. You want the extra 3 minutes. I've seen numerous high school games with a running clock and the team that is being pummeled is actually harmed by the running clock in the late going, when they run out of time while on the footsteps of averting the shut out.

As the announcer mentioned, this is the game you do some of the things we did, it would not surprise me if nothing was ever wrong with Stephen, this is a game where we could see how it would play out if we need Ryan to come in, in an unexpected situation. Also, that SS td looked to be part of Al's plan, let them score to save some face, the guy across the field seems to be a friend of Al's. Al was very apologetic after the game. Also, gave Stacey a chance to do something on kickoff in a real game under the lights, not such a big stage.

Glorified scrimmage, but needed. Team looked great...Al has these guys focused.
