Possible D-Line/DT Coach

I know it's been forever since I played, but wouldn't it be unusual for the D line coach to be calling stunts on his own? The DC is calling the defense and I can't see Guidry just letting JT add in twists on the line.
Yeah, our coordinators call the offense and defense position coaches coach their positions within the scheme of each the D line isn’t gonna do something, not called within the scheme of the defense by Guidry

Are we sure it was on Taylor? I never seen a d-line coach tell his guys to run some independently of what the play calls for
It wasn't independent of the play call though. It was situational. But there's only so many things you can deploy inside of scheme outside of basic ****. Wasn't much creativity in that. He just chose in basically every passing down that we had freedom a stunt.

If only the HC was able to correct this during this past season
You're right. Mario should've #1 never promoted him. #2 never gave boosters the power to speak up and be heard (at all) #3 never have gave JT a job that put him in a role over Joe. #4 never have gave fans or boosters any credence that believe because someone has a gold jacket as a player that it directly correlates to any ability as a coach. #5 Move off from this thought that unless someone is a top notch recruiter, they shouldn't be a position coach. Have a great day.

It wasn't independent. It was situational. How many situation pop up from one play to the next that really alter if youre at the end of the day playing the run or playing the pass. From that point you only have about 6 options. Not too much to it.

Sorry but I was referring to Guidry repeatedly running stunts on the defensive line,

Due to CIS I was under the impression that Jason Taylor didn’t want to do the stunts and Guidry did.

Anyway, head coach should’ve stepped in and corrected it

I was referring to both of them. Guidry was an issue for multiple reasons and JT was for one reason. That impression they apparently gave you is incorrect.

So some of our brilliant fans didn't think he was good enough for Miami, but he was good enough for the NFL....

I hate that we are tied down to Jason Taylor. My understanding is that the “higher ups” want us to stick with Taylor. I’m sure he can recruit and recruits families like him but I know for a fact that some players on the team dislike him. Moten hates JT. That’s from the horse’s as I know the Moten family.

A lot of LSU fans believe Brian Kelly made a big mistake not retaining Tommy Moffit (now at A&M). Interesting note about two of our former S&C coaches.

Despite Elko hiring David Feeley at Duke, he hired Moffit at A&M. A S&C assistant, now at A&M, who worked under both Feeley at Duke and Moffit at LSU, gave Elko a strong recommendation for Moffit.

Elko said guys with as much success as Moffit are usually very rigid, but he was modern & knew the latest frontiers of sports science.

He's done a really good job of evaluating "lower ranked" guys that will thrive in their system.

I had Rashad Weaver at Cooper City. He was a 6'5" basketball player turned defensive end. Athletic but lacked the physicality. I was pleasantly shocked with what Charlie was able to get outta him. Their development is real.
CP wife probably said I’m “out” and taking half of everything if you go back to Miami - not competing with the mamacitas ever again lol

If he hated him so much, why did he never hit the portal?

I wonder if its a respect thing or a work ethic thing. By most accounts, JT seems to be tough on his guys. Some players don't respond well to tough coaching but it could be disrepect from the coach or a work ethic issue on the player.

Just my two cents.

I mean if he is tough on him, he needs to be. Moten has talent, and more in the tank.

And to be clear, when I'm talking about "good enough", I'm talking about qualifications.

We all have our own opinions, based on past experience, about certain coaches who have coached at Miami previously. ****, there is a separate thread talking about how many former UM coaches have gone on to have success elsewhere, and sometimes at higher levels.

Yes, "getting an NFL job" is not a statement that a coach is amazing or completely capable. But if that coach has the qualifications necessary to be hired for a job in the NFL, then it's comical for the CIS "wikipedia bio readers" to conclude that the same guy is not qualified to work as the assistant DL coach at Miami.

That is all.

The ultimate quality of the coach? That is an ongoing process of building one's bona fides with production and success.

But would it have been a stretch to hire this guy to work with Taylor and Hetherman? Obviously not.

Brother I would've personally been okay with that hire. Others I would like far more. But I wouldn't have complained about him either. Have heard some really good things about him. You know I'm just a smart *** sometimes. The bartender is the only one ever I can really say left me feeling like what the **** just happened. Than I remembered why it's Cleveland at the end of the day. They're cursed.
