Popo Aguire shouldn't be seeing the field at all

You're welcome. I stayed up and watched the game. While our defense played pretty bad for 2+ quarters, I don't remember Popo playing that bad and being solely responsible for any of Cal's TD's or big chunk plays. I went back and watched some of those replays just to make sure.
He was responsible for covering the back in the 4th & 1 that turned into a billion yard TD.

You sure you rewatched the right game?

Sorry there were 4 keys plays that he was utterly clueless in which resulted in 4 big plays. There were also numerous plays he completely takes himself out of the play.

1.The TD play to CAL RB out of the backfield was his man.

2.,3rd quarter 8:48 1st and 10 he gets lost again and lets CAL TE get a huge gain he's nowhere near his man.

THE FOLLOWING PLAY HE MESSSED UP AGAIN!@!!!!

3.The QB TD run to make it cal score 35 look at him being clueless

4.First CAL play after we made it 38-32 where the RB had a huge play where mesidor had a game saving hustle trip up. Key in on POPO.

There was also other plays aside from this. I've pretty much seen enough from him aside from this game and previous game where we need to recruit over this kid ASAP. Not only is he making mental mistakes he also looks physically small like a Manny player.

He's borderline unplayable at this point.
I will say the communication between the entire back 7 was much better in the second half and I think that was a testament to moving Powell out of the slot and back to his safety role where he can make sure everyone is in the right spot. Instead of the motion and misdirection getting everyone out of alignment they passed the man off and communicated so much better from mid third quarter on. Popo was a big part of that.

The announcers did say that. But how can we be sure of that? Not trying to argue, just generally wondering how that conclusion is made? It could have been Meesh assigned to the rb.

1. The TD out of the backfield to Ott was not his man

2. Big gain to TE at 8:48 in 3rd qtr. That looked like it was on #21, Alderman.

3. Run by QB to put them up 35-10. He wasn't even on the field. I think you are thinking of Alderman

4. First Cal play after we made it 32-38. Yes, he got sucked up at the LOS and was out of position.

You think 0 was supposed to have Ott on that play? Kinda looks like it to me. Kiko had the inside TE and 7 looks to be matched up with the other TE 10 (who he also let run past him). Think 32 had Mendoza. Their RT tackled Baron on that play too.

Also, OP is nuts. Popo played well when he was in there. Don't know why he didnt get credit for it but he was in on 2 TFLs on runs and got off a block and tackled RB for a 3 yard gain in the 4th quarter. They were all huge plays.

NFL QB for a 7 years knows exactly what the coverage is and who is responsible.

The TD to Ott? No, he was not responsible for covering Ott. Popo was blitzing on the opposite side of where the screen went. I'm not sure who was responsible for covering Ott. Just a good play call by Cal.

I'm not sure who was responsible for covering Ott. Popo was lined up on the far side of where the play eventually went. He was blitzing. Ott was definitely not his man. Just a great play call from Cal right then to take advantage of our aggressiveness. I'm sure Guidry called a run blitz package seeing we had Cal in 4th and 1.

Need one of our more educated posters to break down that play. I might be wrong. Maybe Popo was responsible for covering him, but it sure didn't seem that way seeing where he was lined up on the field and his designated responsibilities. Maybe he went rouge that play and just decided to blitz thinking it would be run, but I doubt that.

It's impossible for even the experts to be sure who had the responsibility on a busted play. It looked like Popo got fooled on those plays but we don't know what his responsibility was, if he was supposed to have safety or corner help, etc. But I know it's the CIS way to just pick one guy to blame for all the team's problems. For some it's Bell, for some it's Powell.. singling out Popo is an interesting choice. It's almost always a team effort. But we like scapegoats around here.
Sam Brown, it’s definitely his fault. Those mistakes aren’t team related at all.

Aguirre makes mistakes but he's a good player. He'll improve with snaps.
