It’s the character you’re trying to play. You’re running out of content.
Ignore it if you want but Ward has masked the underlying problems.
Best comparison is Brian Kelly at Notre Dame. Went 10-3 in 2015, Kelly’s 3rd season. Domer fans thought the future was bright. And then he followed it up with 4-8 season. The big difference is that after a 4 win season, Kelly realized he had to relearn football and do things differently.
How Brian Kelly reinvented Notre Dame to reclaim national relevance
At a low moment two years ago in the LA Coliseum, none of this seemed possible. Now look at Brian Kelly and the Irish.

He Changed everything. Coaches, coordinators, the way the team practiced, offseason prep. And it worked- Notre dame was a playoff team for the next few seasons.
The huge problem is I doubt Cristobal will see the problem- even if he has a 4 win season next year and needs to take a different approach. In his mind, the issue is talent acquisition. He just needs more talented players.
But even with more talented players that doesn’t fix bad coaching. You could have Warren sapp on the DL and we still get gashed because the DC would stunt him right out of the play. DBs would still be confused.
Better talent will help. But coaching will put a ceiling on our team. There is no way that in year 3 of Cristobal, the talent is so bad that it resulted in the worst defense in program history, and one of the worst in the country. If that IS true, then we have bigger problems than the talent on the roster.
