My only counter to that would be if your opponent is from a low level, G5 conference or even FCS. Holding a high scoring MAC team to 10 points below their average isn’t exactly a win if you’re at a premier P5 school.

Otherwise it’s a pretty good metric of defensive success
 
I learned more about scheme, technique, and just overall football lingo in those 30 minutes than I have in my entire life.

I’m forcing myself to not get too high on this hire but this just seems like such a good fit especially when you consider our personnel.

As always, impeccably well done gentleman.

Guardrails to prevent explosives. Very important. Saw the stat where Marshall gave up three all year. We probably exceeded that in the first half of MTSU.

We probably averaged giving up 3 explosive plays PER GAME. Probably multiple games we gave up three per half.

Good point but I would slightly argue that very few guys on Marshalls D could suit up for our D this season. Maybe 2?...So while he was coaching in a low level conference he also had low level talent. As soon as he walks onto Greentree he has two former 5* recruits on his starting D (JW and LT) and a First team AA at safety. (Kam).

Thoroughly enjoyed the podcast. Simply put, Coach Giudry has proven himself to be a successful DC at the G5 level....now it's time to see if he can replicate that success in P5 football.

To me, biggest indicator that he's up for it is the Notre Dame game coupled with the fact that his OFF didn't give much help at all. So this DEF was able to get stop after stop after stop etc enroute to a 9 win season.

I'm on the Guidry train...let's ride!

Yeah, I always take out FCS teams. If I’m talking about a P5 team I try to normalize to against other P5 schools.

The standard deviation talk is to try to bring context on how volatile the offense is. Is it a 50 one week, 20 the next type, or a 35 a week every week type. Holding the 35 below is more impressive than the 50/20, so it just brings more context.

Always welcome feedback if readers/viewers like another approach.

Great podcast. The more I hear about Guidry the more I like. I prefer aggressive defensive coaches than the guys who wait for offenses to make mistakes. For all of Manny’s faults, I always agreed with his basic philosophy. Pressure causes opponent mistakes and if you want to create turnovers and negative plays, you need to prioritize pressure. Hopefully Guidry can prioritize fundamentals that Manny seemed to ignore.
