Plus/Minus: Spring Game Edition

You act like Al and Malcolm aren't close or something. Pretty bush league Greg

That Malcolm Lewis thing was about the Family, first and foremost. Don't understand that, then don't understand the U.

Really liked that early ONE pressure by Grimble (haha, seems silly to point out one play but considering he's written off for dead, deserves note).

Hope Gus Edwards and/or Brandon Yosha are for real.

Dortch looked great in spots, adequate in others. Beaten by back shoulder throws that rivaled Aaron Rodgers. Need Ras I Dowling type sized CBs to defend that crap.

Gunter beaten once badly but more than made up with it with some great breakups.

Howard is getting better that's for sure. Still about a half step behind sometimes but improvement was seen imho. Others seem to disagree cuz Sweeney caught a 4 year quick out route on him, oh noes. Morris threw a td against him on the backside of the play if I recall. Was a nice play by Morris, great catch by Scott?, and not horrible coverage either.

Raphael Kirby with a breakup that led to a Perryman pic and a gif of the day moment.

We're going to have 6 of these WRs on NFL rosters in 3-4 years. Unreal. Carter was about where Al said he was -- needs to work on consistency but ceiling is unlimited.

Sandland put a lot of work in.

Still waitin on Deon Bush and that pass rush up front but hey, with that offensive line we got, and Bush's work ethic, I ain't got no worries. [/5Ringz]

Edit: left out Perez. We have a 'good' kicker problem with him knocking down 40 yarders.

For you guys who complain about the defense: the announcers said we were restricted to playing vanilla defenses no stunts, blitzes, etc. How much better could we have been had we played the full defense?

I don't know, I'll leave that to all the experts here.

We definitely ran stunts and blitzes. Not by the bus load, but we ran them. I saw plenty of slating/angling from our D-line, a few blitzes from our backers and a couple loop stunts from our D-linemen.

I saw them as well

I just had to give my two cents about the Lewis thing.

Personally when I saw him get inured on television I initially thought his career was over. Reminiscent of the Alabama Tyrone Prothro injury that happened years ago. Prothro never played again after trying his best to come back multiple times.

I believe Lewis is very fortunate and blessed less than a year later to be participating in practice. I am happy he is back and would have done the same thing as the coaches. Celebrate with him and make him feel happy to be part of the team on the field again.

Defense wasn't very good at all, but certainly saw some improvement from last year. Boys need to be in the weight room all summer taking it to that next level. Offense was spectacular; Scott and Waters made some amazing catches. I haven't been fully on the Coley bandwagon, I loved Fisch, but Coley really did some nice things with our offense.

Hated the Malcolm Lewis thing. I know it was cool that he was back on the field and looking healthy but this is supposed to be a big time player for us, not a mascot. Almost felt like Al was babying him.

PS. loved the track suit

Dude you just don't get it do you....smh

I'm a lifelong fan and an alum and I don't get it? I know as well as anyone that one thing that separates this school from all others is the fact that it is such a family. I don't like the idea of parading one of your best players out there as a mascot. He hurt his ankle, that is part of football, it isn't like it was a life threatening injury.

When Nebraska does it for a 5 year old cancer survivor that is one thing and a very honorable thing at that. This was completely different and it felt cheap and forced.

Just like anyone your entitled to your opinion, but honestly you can take that opinion and shove it. The kid has worked his *** off to rehab from a devastating injury very early in his career. I personally loved what they did for a great young man, and I loved the Romberg, Toretta, Johnson connection. Shame on you for calling the kid a mascot when all hes done is work to make it back for the spring.

Its not a secret the team has rallied behind Lewis, so why not showcase the hardwork the kid has done

I did not say he was a mascot. I said he was being paraded around like one. I never said he didn't work his *** off to rehab, stop making it like I have a problem with the young man. I really like Malcolm Lewis on and off the field.

But should we do that for every kid who has a season ending injury? This is big time college football and the kid got hurt. He's not Eric Legrand, he hurt his ankle. Somehow I don't see Jimmy or Howard or Butch doing this.

Oh and someone has a different opinion then you so they must shove it? Get over yourself dude.

Dude. It's one thing to be a complete ***.

You don't have to try so hard. We see it.

Assholishness, contrary to your opinion here, is NOT the virtue you were apparently taught. Your momma didn't learn you no better?

Malcolm had a horrific injury. He is a young kid . He is also arguably our most gifted young receiver when healthy. This was about team unity and will look awfully good to recruits to show the family atmosphere. THe OP has contorted himself into a position which is unjustifiable.

It felt fake and cheap especially considering it came right after the Nebraska thing. It was a very high school move, with Golden just trying to relate to recruits. I ask again does anyone think Jimmy or Butch or even Howard would do something like this?

You guys can't handle an opposing view, so go ahead keep negging and I'll shed a little tear for each one.

I actually do think Howard, Jimmy and Butch would completely agree with Golden's move with Lewis. You seem to forget that it was Howard and Jimmy that started the whole "us against the world," mentality and Butch was 100% a players' coach. Just look at all the crap, from academic fraud to benefits, Butch let his players get away with at North Carolina.
Howard loved Miami. Jimmy has said repeatedly that his only school is The University of Miami. Their players loved them.
That's the thing I notice about Golden. His players love or at the very minimum respect the **** out of him.

BTW, Golden doesn't seem to just try to relate with recruits. He DOES relate with recruits. Like Howard, Jimmy and Butch it's just something he seems to be born with.

Off topic ? Why don't we wear the green pants anymore and are we getting new unis this year?

JMO, but Golden doing that for Lewis is a sign that he liked how the spring went and how this team is coming together. I think he mentioned that in a prior interview, that this was the first spring where he felt he could really get stuff accomplished. The stuff with Lewis and the Gino-to-Dre TD doesn't occur if this program hasn't made the appropriate progress in his eyes

Im very optimistic about this upcoming season

i think howard came in believing the hype and not working he was never a speed guy so he can never let up in short i think a freshman takes a DB spot

Miami and 5 stars don't add up...

Howard was a stud in highschool, but he doesn't seem to have any elite skills IMO

The Lewis thing would've been okay if it would've worked the first time instead of getting it right on the third attempt

People have something negative to say about the Lewis touchdown?

The Spring Game isn't competitive...its something for the fans, there are some rewards to players who worked hard...its not to be taken seriously.

It was a great feel good moment.

To whoever said "JJ wouldn't have done it".....

JJ would have done whatever he felt was in the interest of getting a reaction from a team. People seem to remember him as some boring *** Saban type. He wasn't just a mean guy who never let dudes have fun. He was constantly pressing buttons, and if he felt his team would benefit from the closeness that such a moment would bring, he'd do it no question.

By the way, anyone notice how we finally under AG get Miramar kids now? Well showing a coach that when his kids are sent to your school they are taken care of is clearly important to Cogdell. AG hasn't won yet, but if anyone thinks he doesn't plan every single thig he does meticulously you are full ******.

Malcolm looked like he got alot thicker.

No kidding. Bottom heavy. I never would have recognized him, other than the jersey and number.

I almost mentioned this in my lengthy spring game post the other night, but I deleted it because I didn't want anything that hinted of negative toward him. He's not close to ready right now. When he does return, that's the first thing I'll take note of, whether his frame has returned. He's not going to scare anybody or be effective at his weight from Saturday.

A skill position player coming off a leg injury generally needs to be lighter as compensation for what he has lost, not heavier.

Honestly G Reg, I'm not wasting anymore time on this, to say you hated something that showed team unity and true care for a human being whos just overcome a career threatening injury says enough about you. You have no idea how this idea came to be and I'm sure if Lewis had a problem with it, he would have voiced it. But like I said before the kid worked his *** off to make it back and deserved every right to participate in this game. Whether you agree with the fashion he participated in the game, couldn't be anymore insignificant.

He went out there and looked smooth as **** and me and the other thousands that stood on their feet and cheered for the kid, and the entire team that rushed him showed how the felt about it. Thats enough for me.

Nothing says more about a person then when they start out a post with their "credentials". **** outta here

My credentials? Haha dude you need to chill out. It was being discussed what we liked and didn't like about the game. I didn't like the move get over it. Malcolm looked good running today I'm happy he was able to get in the game. Now you can stop acting like a douche simply because you disagree with me. Do you think Butch or Jimmy would ever do something like this?

If anything you look like the douche, pal.

The team, the staff, the fans, Lewis and the whole world disagree with you. That should give you pause.
