Plus/Minus: Spring Game Edition

Hated the Malcolm Lewis thing. I know it was cool that he was back on the field and looking healthy but this is supposed to be a big time player for us, not a mascot. Almost felt like Al was babying him.

PS. loved the track suit

Dude you just don't get it do you....smh

I'm a lifelong fan and an alum and I don't get it? I know as well as anyone that one thing that separates this school from all others is the fact that it is such a family. I don't like the idea of parading one of your best players out there as a mascot. He hurt his ankle, that is part of football, it isn't like it was a life threatening injury.

When Nebraska does it for a 5 year old cancer survivor that is one thing and a very honorable thing at that. This was completely different and it felt cheap and forced.

Malcolm had a horrific injury. He is a young kid . He is also arguably our most gifted young receiver when healthy. This was about team unity and will look awfully good to recruits to show the family atmosphere. THe OP has contorted himself into a position which is unjustifiable.

dude. negged.

i'll throw some thoughts in...

don't know if stat have been posted, but i believe there were 10 carries for 120 yards from Duke. not too shabby if you ask me.

Jontavious Carter was targeted somewhere around 12 times. i believe he came up with 5 receptions. easily the most targeted WR of the day.

Sandland needs to catch more balls. i know he had some tough balls thrown his way, but i hope he can get to the point that he snags everything he sees.

Dewey & Lassiter didn't thrown any balls to my knowledge. not sure what that means. was hoping to see Lassiter toss a few today.

Crow had a handful of passing plays (4 or 5, i think). Williams threw the ball more than Morris did. i think it's clear that Golden wanted to give Williams the chance to solidify the #2 spot today.

good to see Herb get that TD. he didn't know about it before the play.

also great to see a lot of the Hurricane greats from different generations at the game. Ray Lewis and Howard Schnellenberger were in attendance, along with the obvious Romberg, Gino, and Andre sightings. i wouldn't be surprised to hear that plenty more Canes were around for the game today.

shouts out to everyone who showed up. here comes a very long, long football-less stretch for us.

A life threatening injury, no.......but he **** near had a career ending injury bro. As far as the 5 year old I agree about the honorable thing but you wouldn't have said a **** thing if it were some 20 year old student. The thing that got most of us sports fans was with the kids age, period!

It felt fake and cheap especially considering it came right after the Nebraska thing. It was a very high school move, with Golden just trying to relate to recruits. I ask again does anyone think Jimmy or Butch or even Howard would do something like this?

You guys can't handle an opposing view, so go ahead keep negging and I'll shed a little tear for each one.

listened to it. cant wait to watch it tomorrow night. sounds like morris had a great afternoon and had alot of time to pick apart the defense. averaging 20 yards per catch as a squad when morris is the QB is not bad at all. Duke had an easy day. Spring is in the books and we are on the right track. Excited now for summer and fall camp to get ALL the new guys in and thats when we really see the competition heat up.

And I'll say this... for Stacey Coley to see that we have multiple ELITE WR's and more than a handful who will get NFL looks, his choice to come to Miami says alot to me about his character. I know he will be ready to compete.

Post of the day. He really owes Bennett a serious debt of gratitude. Most guys would write off kids with attitude problems (assuming the rumors were true). Staff told them what they wanted to see, and Bennett seems like he was instrumental in guiding him. Im anxious to see Stacy go to work bc he can end up one of the greats.

Quite frankly sir, you dont know what the **** you are talking about. That injury was devastating. Ive seen kids come in with a Pott's fracture like that and they still have issues walking a year later. For him to be running routes at this point is nothing short of a medical miracle. Six months ago his entire foot was pointing the wrong direction. Today he was in full pads running routes in the spring game.

I appreciate that you are a lifer and an alum, but to state what you did shows your ignorance when it comes to athletic injuries.

Coley was practically a saint compared to the kids Bennett had on his team.

AL isn't Jimmy Howard or Butch. You have to understand that Golden isn't having the same approach as these Nick Sabans and Les Miles. He is legitimately trying to build relationships with these athletes. Why? Because I can guarantee that you can go to tuscaloosa and see a situation where there is a 5 star RB whose been on campus for the past 2 seasons and if the kids name or number isn't on the back of his helmet or Jersey, Saban wouldnt know who the **** he was. Al is different and it's something I truly appreciate as a cane fan that his players aren't LITERALLY just a number. COUNTLESS media outlets addressed what he did for malcolm and golden isnt just gonna toss him on a shelf because he had a HORRIFIC ankle injusy as where saban would say "OH! Yeldon is hurt? No worries, get me Dee Hart or one of those freshmen coming in" He cares about his players well being. That mindset you have is prolly why these kids are all bolting florida. They rather deal with fans that wanna see them win and thats it rather than deal with a guy who can't understand compassion as a fan when it comes to getting talent back on the right track.

I have alot of experience with Northeast High School. We've played them in the play-offs and have also played them several times at 7-on-7 tournaments. I've never even heard a peep from Coley's mouth. Matter of fact, the rest of his team would be acting like complete animals and he'd be the most quiet one.

Negged for continuing to defend a stupid position.

Ayo fam, we ain't tryna hear all that bulls**t, carry yo a$$ somewhere with that, Golden wanted to show his appreciation for the kid for all the hard work he put in coming back from that gruesome injury, who knows what was said between Golden & Lewis, as Lewis was on the ground scared with a million things running through his mind, just let it be, it was a good moment for the program.

That Malcolm Lewis thing was about the Family, first and foremost. Don't understand that, then don't understand the U.

Really liked that early ONE pressure by Grimble (haha, seems silly to point out one play but considering he's written off for dead, deserves note).

Hope Gus Edwards and/or Brandon Yosha are for real.

Dortch looked great in spots, adequate in others. Beaten by back shoulder throws that rivaled Aaron Rodgers. Need Ras I Dowling type sized CBs to defend that crap.

Gunter beaten once badly but more than made up with it with some great breakups.

Howard is getting better that's for sure. Still about a half step behind sometimes but improvement was seen imho. Others seem to disagree cuz Sweeney caught a 4 year quick out route on him, oh noes. Morris threw a td against him on the backside of the play if I recall. Was a nice play by Morris, great catch by Scott?, and not horrible coverage either.

Raphael Kirby with a breakup that led to a Perryman pic and a gif of the day moment.

We're going to have 6 of these WRs on NFL rosters in 3-4 years. Unreal. Carter was about where Al said he was -- needs to work on consistency but ceiling is unlimited.

Sandland put a lot of work in.

Still waitin on Deon Bush and that pass rush up front but hey, with that offensive line we got, and Bush's work ethic, I ain't got no worries. [/5Ringz]

Edit: left out Perez. We have a 'good' kicker problem with him knocking down 40 yarders.

For you guys who complain about the defense: the announcers said we were restricted to playing vanilla defenses no stunts, blitzes, etc. How much better could we have been had we played the full defense?

I don't know, I'll leave that to all the experts here.

Yeah, I agree, it was bush. Never should have done it, never should have done something that had all the players and coaches enthused, and showed team unity. So, Howard, and Jimmy and Butch would never have done it. Neither would Erickson, probably. You're right.
