Player regression on defense

It's year 3. We should not be complaining about talent. He's brought in 3 classses. He could have gotten some **** JUCOs to take Highsmith spot if there is really no one better than him. That's how a ton of teams rebuild fast. There are no excuses in year 3, it's on golden.

I disagree somewhat here. With the NCAA garbage out there and not knowing what your numbers are going to be and how many scholarships you may have to hold back, it might make you live with something at a position that you otherwise might address. It isn't fair to use the "it's year three" argument when Golden hasn't had a clean three years.

That's not excusing what we see on the field. I agree that what we've seen out there is horrid and there's no defending anyone on it. I just don't think we can apply the stock "three year" analysis in this case because of the factors that existed when Golden came aboard and until now.

Oh, and that's not a talent excuse either. We should not look like we have, period.

Take the ? away from Perryman. I'll get attacked for this, but I've been saying this all season. He racks up the tackles, but aside from the UF game, he's had an average year. He rarely makes a big play, and most of his 10 tackles are 10 yards down the field. He's the best player on defense, but that's like being the tallest midget in the room. I think he's a good LB, but far from an all-American, and far from all the hype. He's no Sean Spence, and he would probably look a lot better with other LBs with a pulse around him, but he's not good enough to shine with crap around him. Before anyone says, no one would look good on that defense, that's not true. There are elite LBs who would look good no matter who was playing next to them.

At least he will be back next year unless he is content being a 4th rounder.

Duke has barely D1 talent on their roster.........

Porter would start there.

Renfrow and Gilbert were on the two deep on their previous D1 teams

Tracy Howard and Gunter are NFL bound

Shayon and Gaines would play.

Highsmith is trash

Cornelius outgrew his natural position

But Duke has wayyyyyyy more talent than us.......right

The kid that puzzles me the most is Chick

This kid was an All-american...Beat out J. Clowney for the MVP at the Under Armour game

and is looking like he is getting worse as the years go on for him...What is the deal

They made him gain too much weight and he's playing out of position.

That kid's not a 3-4 Defensive End.

I dont think Perryman has gotten worse but since he has to play on his heels all game he doesnt get a chance to shine like players on other teams.

In a real defense he would be one of the LBs getting national recognition.

I don't think DP looks nearly as bad as Porsters have criticized him for.

Ever play sports, whether at a high (collegiate) level or in a pickup game, where the rest of your squad is subpar? Scheme or not, you try to put the team on your back. DP has tried to do that.

Great nose for the ball, and usually dealing with the DL getting blown off the LOS in front of him. There's been some missed tackles, sure. But they'd be a lot less glaring if we weren't getting anally raped for 500+ every week.

Only so much one man can do.

Perryman's gonna end up like McCarthy and Sharpton IMO. Decent little career here but will look better in the NFL playing behind real D-linemen.
