Pete...what has fundamentally changed in UM recruiting?

If Butch stays at Miami, Miami owns the 2000's...and that's real. Ain't no USC National Titles to be vacated, ain't no rise of the SEC in the middle of the decade...Miami owns the 2000's.

Another sour grapes thread. Larry, I do not know why you keep responding to this crap

Enough already

"Sour grapes" thread?

Yes. Would you like me to crown you as the "Revisionist Historian Extraordinaire?"

Fack me to tears why don't you? I love and respect your opinion to death.

But sometimes this shiat is hard to listen to Larry, it really is. Would you like us to cry at your alter?
Fack me man, fack me!!

Simmer down Ablecane, simmer down now..

We've all been silent all these years..I don't romanticize about it, that's his job here..(I love your posts Lar, please don't take it the wrong way.)

Methinks you don't quite understand what the term "sour grapes" actually means.

I think I do. I am a little wolf that loves to fetch grapes from vines. Sometimes I jump really hard to get a bite of those tender grapes. Sometimes I just can't get those tasty grapes. The ones I cannot get are sour to you and me.

Butch Davis didnt want him running the defense or picking out prospects. Think about that and let it sink in. What the **** was Paul Dee thinking in giving him that job?

Butch Davis let a known cheat sink his career(John Blake). Butch's judgment isn't something you should be using to support your argument. Butch earned the name Botch for a reason.

Butch is one of the best talent evaluators around. People called him Botch for the same reason some of our fans think we should still be in BCS contention every year, because they don't understand football. "Botch" probably wins 3 or 4 National Championships if he stayed another 5-6 years.

Two things:

(1) His poor judgment in terms of John Blake has nothing to do with his judgment as an evaluator of talent. On the defensive side of the ball, I don't think even Saban can come close. Butch is on his own level.

(2) He was called "Botch" because he was easily one of the biggest cluster****s on gameday that anyone can ever watch. Some people are good on the spot and some are not. It just wasn't his thing. That said, just think about this for one second: the guy built 5 of the top 10 most talented defenses during a single decade...

...at two different schools! The last of which is located in North ****ing Carolina.

I feel sick to my stomach. We were very fortunate to have Butch Davis in our program. He is responsible for most of our great memories. I only wish Golden can be half the coach he was. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

TRUTH. One of the saddest and most disappointing truths. But truth nonetheless.

You alright bruh?

I haven't read all the comments in this thread so Idk what has or has not been posted, but there are a couple things that stand out

1-relationships with coaches down here
-while the Shannon-HS coach "battle" stuff was blown out of proportion, Golden has made a strong effort to gain the trust of coaches down here and he has done a good job of that. We will see how he maintains those relationships as HS coaches may not be happy with playing time or opportunities their former players get at Miami (sounds weird, but happens all the time)

2-not giving up on kids
-Shannon showed tendencies to only go after kids who truly "wanted to be Canes". I cringe every time I see somebody post, "We only need kids who want to be Miami Hurricanes." What is that supposed to even mean? A perfect example of this is Tracy Howard last year. Early in the process (spring/summer), he didn't "want" to be a Cane, but rather a Gator. Golden never stopped recruiting him and now he's here. That was a situation where Shannon might have just let the kid go elsewhere without a fight.

One thing I noticed is I don't hear phrases like "I haven't heard from Miami in a while" when I read or listen to interviews anymore. That by itself says a **** of a lot to me.

Randy had measureable requirements, especially at CB. Randy very rarely competed for kids in the tri-county area, gave up on kids too easily. Randy had ZERO camps, ****** ZERO. Guy laffed at Friday Night Lights.

AG has re-established our Canes' visibility in the tri counties, made inroads in Tampa, and has pulled in some ballas despite sanctions. His camps have been very beneficial. Not just for evaluations, but more importantly getting this program more exposure.

Yes I remember his excuse for not running Junior days was Miami was too far south to draw kids from all over the state. Well even if that were true, how about just drawing kids from right down the **** street? Not like there isn't 20-30 Miami caliber football players within an hour of campus every single year.

^^^This.

Butch was a horrible game day coach. Finding and evaluating talent is another conversation.

So sad... I remember hearing about 'junior days' always being on the same day as PRO DAY to create an idea that the NFL was always in Coral Gables. Its funny how Randy and Coker both directly worked under Butch but somehow missed out on how to run a team..

Just JMO but it think Golden cast's a wider net than Shannon.
Golden offers and recruits more players while Shannon preferred a smaller number.

Butch wasn't a horrible gameday coach. Not the best but not horrible. Shannon on the other hand was just awful. We never had timeouts when we needed them and it seemed like every 2 minute drill was a huge cluster ****. Bowl game against Cal stands out the most.

Compare Shannon and Golden.
What went wrong and what changes have been made to correct things? (assuming you think things have been corrected)
I'm truly not looking to make this a Shannon-bashing thread but Id like to understand, based on your knowledge, what systematically has changed? What specifically is different about their approaches?

I don't follow recruiting that closely but the biggest difference I see is Golden has more of a big picture recruiting plan. Shannon took lopsided classes oversigning some positions and undersigning others. Shannon also seemed to go for one guy and have no backup in mind. If he didn't get the first guy, he'd offer some random player. Golden has a guy ready if a recruit doesn't commit or decommits. Northrup ditches us and Golden instantly locks up Blue. If Collins decommits, I'm confident Golden has someone to go after.

Also remember if boats and hoes comes out and we dominated the NCAA would cripple um forever. It would be the biggest scandal ever besides PSU.

I find it very interesting that Pete is being asked this question. I was under the impression that he just graduated high school and is 18 years old, making this a bit of a toughie for him.

my thoughts exactly. Pete is a little boy basically just out of diapers
