Pete Carroll says it perfectly:

Dorito is the dumbest mug on the planet... let me coach and we'll have a top 10 defense for sure...

4-2-5 is the way to go right now...

Let's not ignore the fact that while we recruit an insane amount of gifted athletes, the area ain't exactly known for it's academic prowess.

Cmon, amigo, you know better than to throw the ol' "our guys aren't smart enough" routine. Does FSU have Rhodes Scholars? Does UF? Does Loserville?

What defense's do you see in south florida for the most part

undisciplined, poorly coached, undersized.

Exactly. The high schools down here don't win based on coaching, that's for sure. It's often brutal to watch.

I thought South Dade looked very good defensively this season. I saw them three times and they were obviously well prepared for the opponent each time. Best coached local team I've seen in quite a while. Their defense probably would have fared even better if they had run the ball more often. For example, the only points they allowed to Southwest was on an interception return. South Dade ventures out of the city tonight and I'm not sure how they'll fare but I'm not surprised they advanced as far as they did. Looks like they have a good weight training program also, based on the frames of their players. They looked more formidable than Savannah State.

"From this front we get a “gap control” type of play. When you put a defensive lineman in a gap and tell him he has to control the gap he can play very aggressively. He can aggressively attack the line of scrimmage and not just read and react."

here's some more recent write ups from his time in seattle:

You can see our defense is confused. It's easy to see because they play slow and too many guys are wide open on too many plays. When you take all these highly pursued recruits, and they look like they're all running in quicksand, then you know they're trying to process too much information. Paralysis by over-analysis.

We need to get back to playing downhill and quit overburdening our players with too much info.

Our guys don't even know where to line up on most plays. How many times have teams snapped the ball before we were even set? All I need to see to know that our guys are confused. Our defense has looked lost or 3 years under Coach D. And that just pre-snap, not even talking about what happens when they are actually playing.
