Perryman destroys RB in scrimmage

Regarding Gus, why does taking a vicious hit and holding onto the ball and getting right back up make him "soft" as so many on here are claiming?

I see a guy who runs too upright, but I don't see him being soft.

Do you think maybe the over aggression happened in plays we did not see? Like maybe after the big hit he was over pursuing on plays? Or maybe that he got picked off waaaayyy too easily on that TD to Tucker? Maybe just maybe he had one great play and a bunch of ok plays and he got his jersey taken for a day to show that though he was great some of the time, its expected that he be great all the time? I just don't feel like the jersey demotion had anything to do with the hit on Gus.... There was nothing wrong with that play, but it was not the only play of the scrimmage so I'm going with it was some OTHER play/plays that got him jersey demoted.... for one whole day at that...lol

Gus admittedly is just a second year guy, but he plays smaller than his size. Not sure that makes him soft, but at 230 I expect him to initiate contact more and run through tackles more consistently like what we saw in Walter Tucker in the Spring game. Definitely needs to get behind his pads more.

Truth be told though, anyone of our backs would have gotten laid out on that particular play because Prez had a free run to the ball carrier.

The same guys crowning GUS DA BUS last year before he even played a game are now ****ting on him because he got jacked up by Perryman on a stretch play. Unreal.

I personally never understood the fascination with Gus, but whatever. I was saying he should've gone to the Big 10, 11, 12, or whatever it's called and people jumped all over me for it. He's a guy that has some talent, but he's not what we use at RB and a FB / HB is an afterthought anymore. It's amazing how fast people turn on someone here.

Truth be told, I expected more from the hit when I clicked the link. Solid hit, but there wasn't any destruction. That to me implies knocking someone out and Gus (dumbasses saying he's soft) took it in stride.

I think he's a solid RB and looked decent in time last year. He's no star, but no reason he can't be a guy who gets 7-10 carries per game and is productive. But it's just hilarious to me how he's already been labeled soft after playing decently last year, and sucked off by this board before he even played a game, because of one hit in practice.

He's just too big and slow for me. Good speed for his size, just a grinder, and as I said....not the type of RB we use. He's basically a bigger Javarris James to me, not all that similar besides both their play suits a lot of Big teams style of RB. If healthy, Year by should get those carries and the following year, even if we get 2 of the 4 verbal, there's not enough carries for him.

He could become an elite lead back or blocker, but he's too young to say if that's going to be the case right now. Yearby and Scarlett in a two back set, or even Walton....now that scarier than any combination involving Edwards. Pressuming of course he doesn't become that phenomenal lead back / blocker.

I never called him a bus more like a bust imo to many RBs in South Florida to worry about some running back who is scared to lay the boom on somebody. You’re going to see lot of the same bs he did last year trying to run around people instead of lowering his pads to grind out a few extra yards. He wants to be scat back instead of a power back. What happens to him next year when he gets beat out by several true freshmen for his reps? You think he will stick around or leave? He is not UM Caliber he reminds me of Gaines when he was playing LB makes plays 5 yards down the field instead of blowing up the rb in the hole

running around kids to avoid contact last year at 230 pounds makes you pretty soft to me

I agree Gus Edwards needs to run harder, and those hits from Denzel will reinforce that thought process.

A RB who tries to avoid getting tackled is soft? OK. Sounds like CIS retardo-truth to me.

230 pnd kids trying out run smaller guys does sound pretty weak to me. You can spin it how you want to but when he gets passed up on depth chart every year than what?

Not going to waste too much time talking to you because you seem developmentally challenged, but just because he's big and might not be as good as other RBs on the roster doesn't mean he's soft. Strap that hockey helmet on, and have a great day, champ!

Was it his 5.1 YPC average and 5 touchdowns that turned you off last year, or was it Perryman hitting him in practice?

Don't understand the people blaming Gus - he got blown up by one of the best linebackers in the NCAA

Did you guys not watch the gamse ? How was his adverage vs top teams ? The kids avoids contacts and not once did i see him load up on somebody. You and Franchise keep sitting on this board protending like your opioning are the only ones valid.

Its not even this one hit, this is how he ran all season. He is far to slow to be running that upright and needs to run behind his pads more for being as big as he is. He isnt bad, but with Duke and now Yearby and Chocolate and the rest of the incoming backs coming in he needs to step his **** up if he wants to get any carries in the future.
