Our Single Most important recruit for 2014

I agree JH. I think the position of DT is the one where we have the most urgent need. We are after a handful who seem to be playing at close to the same level. I really like the kid out of Georgia and Elder's former teammate. Clark and Valentine pass the eyeball test, but yeah DT is the position where we need to load up.

To the OP, I'd love to land Cook because his highlight film is impressive - great acceleration AND top end speed, but I see him as more of a luxury at this point. Other positions of need are CB and, what, without looking at the roster I'd say maybe LB???

At this point it has to be a DT.

I'm not as big on Clark as the rankings services have him but he has a chance to show out this year. I like Valentine a little bit better. Gotta see these guys as seniors first though.

Lane and Cook and Sony, it shows a message to the SEC teams and the future to local kids that UM is the place and to stay home. Just the magnitude of getting these 3 scares everyone else and the trolling will begin, thats when u know we back.
It doenst matter who we have its called reload if Bama can do it we should be able to too if we want to be dominant again. Step back and think if we had these guys committed right now?

Huh? F&ck showing the sec anything. We do what we do. The local kids are staying at home. We can't get every big named recruit coming out of SF. The kids you name should want to rep their home team. If they don't later for them. As we win more and more and the NCAA stops its madness our recruiting will go beyond where it is today, which all things considered is very good.

I'm certainly not absolving Golden and this staff for some of their recruiting misses, but anyone paying attention to SFLA recruiting these last few years can see it has less and less to do with how we recruit them. **** is beyond out of control and it's only getting worse. We just have to fight for the RIGHT kids to stay home, and unfortunately those are the things that you don't find out for a few years after they are recruited, so in the mean time you have all the whining and ****ing and moaning.

U win more with good players or is it just coaching? I'll take talent all day just like the draft, position of need is at DT but landing those 3 would be a game changer. That would be breaking news on espn and everyone would say we are cheating again. Also u cant replace elite talent just because a SFLA kid leaves doesnt mean u can plug another SFLA player and he would do the same NO WAY. Thomas Bostwick Collins Bryant <------yea they stood home huh? 2 top the SEC and 2 to our rivals, yea but they staying home.those kids cant be replaced no matter which name took over there spot sorry, true story and im pretty sure the staff knows that.

I agree with what you say about Golden, but frankly I think he's done an incredible job of selling a program that has been under a shadow of nationally publicized NCAA scrutiny and climbing out of a a mess that was not his creation, i.e., Coach Coker and Coach Shannon's roster management and the culture they created in our program. Sans the NCAA fiasco, how do you think we'd be doing? I really believe once we turn that corner and win then we'll get even more elite kids.

I agree

Top recruits are attracted to successful coaches. What you say creates a false dichotomy, like we should have either elite athletes or elite coaching. We can have both. Golden still has much to prove in that regard. This year for him is pivotal on many levels, but I am cautiously optimistic based on how we finished last year and who we have coming back. My point about the SEC is that as a Cane, all we need to show them is our play when we line up across from them. The only program in that conference with more mncs than us is Alabama. We will NEVER get all of elite kids in SF. The recruiting game has changed. Social media and "globalization", if you will, have made the world much smaller. What we need to focus on is getting the right kids, the kids that fit what we do and yes some, perhaps many, of them will be elite but as you know SF is a haven for elite athletes, which is why I'm not as concerned about losing Sony. We bought the hype that he was going to be a Miami Hurricane going back to him being in Junior High School. We recruited him hard, and for now he's going elsewhere. Later for him. I celebrate the kids that want to be Hurricanes. And truthfully we haven't lost Lane or Sony for that matter since this is just June.

We are known for adjusting to times we change things so we have to adapt and if the SEC is doing dirt we gotta do dirt when the NCAA gets off our *** period. AG has been ok on gameday better than RS but he failed on NSD last year and u can see it on his face during interviews. We have to have a good season on the field and we have to lock up elite kids from SFLA year after year after year, u cant skip a year if u want to be what we were in 99 - 03.

Imagine if Duke J wasnt a hard core UMfan and we lost him to a SEC team............ Imagine
An elite Duke Johnson leaving SFLA and everyone on here saying if you dont want to be a cane you'll get beat by us bullshyt.........If the ELITE Duke Johnson wasnt here last season we would have won 3 to 5 games and the passing attack would be nada without him.

At the end of the day its about getting elite kids,if u miss OOS I cant get mad, but on your home fkin turf cmon man.

I've been telling people to stop with the "skating" crap for a long time now specifically because of recruiting. We have done a great job all things considered, but our classes have been crippled for multiple years because of it. You can't get that back, no matter what happens now.

What they have done has been borderline miraculous IMO, especially since we have been middle of the road on the field.

I've got to step out so I can't continue this, but we can just agree to disagree on part of this because I don't think he failed last year - not totally. He admitted that he missed on keef. I don't think the kid from BTW comes here even if Jimmy Johnson or Butch were coaching. His decision making seems questionable. Like I implied in a previous post, I think the bigger questions about Golden as a coach (meaning game day) will be answered this season. There are still some players from the previous staff, but Golden has had time to place his imprimatur on the team. Again, I am optimistic. And as far doing the dirt that the SEC does, we won't and frankly speaking we can't so forget about it.

I'm saying Clark for a few reasons.
1. The most critical position of need
2. The destructive negativity of losing another local Miami lean and how it could create problems for others kids we want.
3. We have to stop losing local kids to the SEC and FSU.
My second choice would be Lane for reasons 2 and 3 above.

I dont want to continue either but if AG were coach in 99 he would land those kids. If Davis was coach last year he would not land them, different time and shady **** going on thats keeping UM at bay.

Indeed. And it's "the middle of the road on the field" part is what makes this season so important.
