OT - UNC has hired Belichick

Looking forward to a few things:

1. Stories about Belichick's chick pulling a "Candi Fisher"

2. He loses, often

3. His ego is destroyed

4. He quits

If this actually happens it won’t crash and burn. It may not go perfectly, but the end result will be better than what it is today

Makes you wonder if they have "exit strategies" in place...

That's a big cash commitment. Whose funding this?

Just bc they haven’t been backing football doesn’t mean they can’t. There’s a massive and very rich alumni base they can tap into

Quite the assumption... I never suggested they couldn't back football, and / or if they have a massive alumni base to tap.

I did ask who is funding this hire.

Boosters are funding this hire. They’re looking at about a $20-25ish million a year bump in funding. That’s not some unsustainable jump. It’s just full buy in. A couple years ago the school wrapped up a 5 year fundraising campaign that got over $5 billion. Something only a handful of schools in the country have ever done. 70+ donors gave $10 million or more.

Jordan and his brand are supposedly now fully on board. Loudermilks, Smith family, Komans, Williams, etc. UNC is a rich *** school.

From what I heard the boosters did this. The AD Cunningham was the one who said Mack had to go. That was against the wishes of some large donors. So they high jacked this process and had to put up or shut up. Cunningham wanted somebody young. Schumann and Sumrall were at the top of the departments hiring board.

Thanks for this reply. Makes me wonder if they know something we don't regarding realignment. That's a lot of cash to suddenly pony up for a program they never truly invested in.

Hoops is one thing, but football?

Our days are seemingly numbered.

It’s known that UNC at the top of the SEC’s wishlist. I explained this a while back in the realignment thread. The state is trying to tie UNC and NC State together to prevent them from being in different conferences and having a large disparity in revenue. As soon as that is figured out, they’ll be out of here. Thats why there is no panic and no lawsuit. They’re just buying time. Their future is set. This financial commitment is seen as an investment with the end goal of getting it all back when they leave the ACC.

He seems like such a warm and friendly guy I think kids will love playing for him.

And before anyone says yeah Saban is a real joy you at least see videos of him smiling and seeming to care a bit.

The only way this works is if they pour Oregon/Texas type money into the portal.
