OT recruiting (juco)

Diagree with the OP, I’ve seen Campbell and Hillery getting lots of PT at the T position along with Scaife. If we get Neal then we’ll be good at the T position. Also don’t forget about Herbert.
For me next year I’ve love to see:
LT: Hillery / Campbell
LG:Donaldson
C: Gaynor
RG: Scaife
RT: Neal / Herbert

Scaife's going to be playing tackle next year. Reed's likely taking one of the guard spots next season.

If we get neal(I think He definitely has more ability to play tackle than Navaughn).

We might have a line like
LT Evan neal
Lg Venzel boulware/Cleveland reed
C Corey gaynor
Rg Navaughn Donaldson
Rt DJ Scaife

I defintiely Think we can win with a line like that. John Campbell who the coaches seem high on may have a say in one of the tackle races too. If a young tackle steps up (Campbell, Herbert(i think he may be injured saw of pic of him on crutches) etc I wonder If they play scaife at center to give gaynor completion or overall take his spot?

Eventually he’s too short to play T. He’s better suited for G. You will see the young T step up by mid year.
Maybe at the next level that could be a valid point but he absolutely has the ability to play out in space on the edge due to his ability to bend and with his long arms.

I completely agree with this group I love the potential they have just need Searles to develop them

Next year I think they should give Mahoney a look at C. 5th year SR that is a smart and technical player. I’m hoping Gaynor redshirts this year since he didn’t get to last year, that way we get another year from him. Get Donaldson at OG and let Reed and Boulware compete for the other. Then between Scaife, Campbell, Hillery, Herbert and possibly a freshman like Neal or a JUCO, you will get 2 Tackles. I think Eguakun and Tarquin would both be great OGs, both very mobile and get to the 2nd level well.

Think we need a true Tackle. I love the film of the British kid.

Thoughts on Evan Neal? Seems like a kid that could be a day 1 starter. I get your point though that we also need depth. Hopefully Herbert will get his shoulder right and be able to play and contribute at some point and it would be great to see Scaife at RT.

I’m all for Neal but how many day 1 starter freshman have there been at left tackle at a major p5 program?

I just see him as a better G prospect. Hillery, Campbell and Herbert have higher ceilings at T.

Campbell could possibly grade out higher at T later on than Scaife. Herbert and Hillery (who was considered a high-end project at signing) have not yet generated any buzz in their 2nd year. Scaife's already taking 2nd team reps at RT. We have a roster with more guard quality than tackle, with how Scaife moves, he has high-end tackle ability.

Not many. Neal would likely been in the same position that Scaife's in - seeing 2nd team reps to start his freshman season. But we have to sign Neal first and he's far from a Canes lock.

Not many which is why I said he looks like he could be but at the end of the day you never know how HS kids are going to adjust to the speed of the college game.

I'd rather see Scaife play Guard. Especially if we get neal/JUCO/a young tackle steps up for next year. Donaldson/Scaife at the Guards, Reed/Boulware as the top backups. i agree with moving Mahoney to C (if he can snap, not everyone can). Let Scaife play RT if we don't Neal or a younger player doesn't step up and we can leave mahoney at Guard.

best case scenario is probably

LT: Juco/young tackle/Neal
LG: Scaife/Boulware
C: Mahoney/Gaynor
RG: Donaldson/ Reed
RT: Campbell, Hillery, Herbert

or even

LT: Young tackle (Herbert, Cambell, Hillery
LG: Boulware/Reed
C: Mahoney/Gaynor
RG: Scaife
RT: Slimmed down Donaldson

(you could swap Scaife and Donaldson if necessary)

worst case is probably this and I still think it would be an upgrade at least in terms of run blocking

LT: Scaife
LG: Boulware/Reed
C: Gaynor
RG: Mahoney
RT: Donaldson

One thing i noticed early (haven't gotten a chance to re-watch toledo yet) is that our offensive line plays extremely high. Idk if its poor coaching, players not listening, fatigue setting in and technique goes out the window but whatever it is improved technique could go a long ways to making this oline at least above average this year. One thing could be with the focus on safety and less full go padded practices olines usually look worse early in the year because they just don't get the necessary live reps that they need and this at all levels of football so I'd expert the online to continue getting better going into ACC play.

Juco should be on option every year for dt and ot unless your recruiting beasts every year. And so far we haven’t.

Eguakan is our next center after gaynor from what i read on here

You have a guy we havent landed penciled in as a starter. Hillery hasnt pushed as of yet. I like Campbell alot as ive stated. We need a juco or a grad transfer tackle to be able to shirt a guy or 2...and infuse the talent level at that spot. ..Unless your cool with trotting out abunch of guards at Tackle like FSU is

Neal is my fav Tackle prospect. Good feet for a big uy..big wingspan. He can be coached up hes a 4 yr starter anywhere he commits.;
