OT: Paul finebaum. says 1995 Nebraska team ever. drink bleac

The reality is that the 2001 Canes will never go down as the greatest team ever for two key reasons:

1) Larry Coker's fear of fear itself.
That team should have blown the doors off of everyone they faced but did not because their head coach was one of the five greatest pussies in the history of the sport. His nice guy nature prevented him from winning games as significantly as the team could have really cost them a chance at the #1 overall spot. We saw it from game 1 onward. We were up 30-0 at halftime and ended the game up 33-0. Coker had the team roll over and play dead for an entire half. If you wanna be the best ever, you have to win that type of game by 45+.

2) The ****ed-upped-ness of the BCS during the brief period where humans were taken away from controlling the title game matchup in favor of a pure computerized model. What a ******* disaster that was. Clearly the morons in charge of this never saw the movie War Games. We played a national title game against a team that lost its conference title game 62-36. Yes, a team that gave up 62 points and lost was awarded with a spot in the national title game. And in keeping with Coker's *****-*** game management approach, UM only scored 37 points as Larry took the air out of the football the entire second half.

Except for the fact that 2001 Miami is already considered by many to be the best team of all time despite your reasons.

The only team I think could beat the '01 Canes were the mid 2000 USC teams.

Meaning, if we played 10 games, I think we would win 7 out of 10. USC had a great offense that could run and pass the ball, and a good, but not great defense. Pete Carroll at the helm.

I've heard arguments that the 2013 FSU team could hang with us, but I don't believe it for a minute.

The '08 Gators? Same story. Do you know how motivated our defense would be to beat the **** out of Tim Tebow?

What is lost in all this is that the 1983 team nicknamed "The Scoring Explosion" and ranked #1 (in the midst of an unsuccessful 5-year run on contending for NC) was the best team Nebraska has ever had. That team was beat by a little red engine that could, mostly from Overtown (From what I can recall).

But let's forgive Finebum for his dementia-plagued brain.

I blame Coker more for the Nebraska game. I'm not sure if it's worth it to risk injuries to beat PSU 47-0 rather than 33-0. And seriously nobody remembers or cares about the score of the 2001 Miami PSU game.

Nebraska I agree with you on. There was no need to worry about injuries since that was the last game. (Unless somebody got an injury so bad they missed the next season.) Plus people actually remember and evaluate the 2001 Miami team by that game.

Miami beating Nebraksa 37-14 was just as dominat as Nebraska beating UF 62-24 in the Championship game. Yes one Margin was 23 and the other is 38 but points after the game is no longer in doubt really have no value. Plus with NU being a running team they could run up the score while running out the clock were we have to change our style of play to run out the clock.

Both games were the same one team hung around for a corner and the game was over at halftime (34-0 vs 35-10)

Miami 7 27
NEB. 0 0

Florida 10 0
NEB 6 29

So much THIS. I'm still mad that the 2000 team didn't get to smack around Stoops and Oklahomo in the Orange Bowl. Unbelievable that an FSU team that we beat head to head snuck into the title game and got thoroughly embarrassed.
