OSU Transfer

Whether the staff is interested or not aside, a few things need to be taken into consideration that makes a "1 shot" rule dumb.

1) Are they elite, or not. Will they make our team better as soon as they walk on the field, and do we consider him better than at least one, or all of the recruits he will keep from getting a scholarship and at least one or all of the players currently on the roster.

if yes...

2) Why did he leave? Is he originally from out of state, or is he a bag casualty that is a walking NCAA violation? Did we really fight to get him, or was it assumed from the get go that he was destined to land at ____________.

3) Why is he coming back? Did he get in trouble, is he not as talented as everyone thought, are his grades ****, was there too much of a culture shock, or is there a family hardship.

For me, he seems to check all the right boxes in the above questions. And until we decide that we are TOO talented/too long a winning streat/too many national championship we have no business turning away roster upgrades.

I totally get the sentiment we are trying to hold onto, but I care more about winning games than I do about our recruiting image. Get the best players, win the most games. **** what anyone else thinks about it.

Good points.

Conversely, I still think the new 1 shot rule will yield more benefits and keep us in a stronger position with HS croots. Will add more leverage in living room negotiations. "If you go to XYZ state" you can't come transfer back. It will also add prestige to local offers.

F a "family hardship." Croots should be forced to think about them before skipping town.
Im indifferent with what happens here but you can't just treat every case the same as others as westcoastcanes pointed out. Grimes wasn't the typical SFLA kid, he was signed sealed and delivered to tOSU long time ago. He didn't think he was too good for us he just had a stronger connection to a different program. Now because of some unexpected circumstances he needs to stay closer to home.

This is how how u play it if you are Miami down play that **** until after February then after u get all your croots signed up bring him in ... no sense in scaring any 18 WR croots...

Do. Not. Want. Every kid south of I-4 should only get 1 shot. They pass, it's on them

Glad you are not in control of our recruiting. This kid is a take as long as he didnt commit any felonies or sleep with anybody on staff's wife (or significant other to be politically correct)

Not sure if you read The Work when this broke but Pete said that 1 shot for SFL is the new standard. No second chances. If he really wants to be down here he can take his talents to FAU and ball for Kiffin. We got 3 studs coming in at WR and a lot of young talent. He thought he was too good for the U last year. This year the U is too good for him

I read the work. I think there is more legs to this and it is being kept quiet. Thats JMO. Urban will cry and moan if it comes out we have been in contact.

Remember this staff got a very late start on recruiting Grimes to UM. Sure, he chose OSU over us. Urban had been recruiting him for years up there and he is from the midwest. Kid made a mistake, and he is what we hope N'Joku could possibly develop into. He was never a **** in his recruitment and disrespected UM in any way. His mind was already made up before Richt was hired. You can't pass up this kind of talent if they are truly interested

We talked about possibly getting a 4th WR to go w/ Pope, Dingle, and Hightower. What better way than to get a Grimes off waivers?? Give me T Grimes all day. Cager is looking real shaky. Langham may or may not return next year as a redshirt Sr. Berrios is gone. A combination of Richards, Grimes, Harley, and Thomas gives me goose bumps. Plus we'll rotate in the pups. If he wants in, gotta take him.

This would be a huge fourth and final wr in this class. Thornton can enjoy G ville

Well when he is making plays for us next year, I don’t want to see you get excited since you don’t want him here lol. He is a stud, and we are in no position to turn down players of his caliber. The kid is coming, so apparently the staff doesn’t agree with you about us being too good for him.

Yes we ARE. Golden got you shook. We're a top-10 team with the number 3 ranked signing class. If they pass they can choke on it while we go balling

I actually think this would be great for the program. Having a Top 5 star WR realizing he made a mistake leaving and came back to Miami. Shows other recruits its not always greener on the other side and that we are on the rise. Come to Miami and become great before its too late.

Also, is there any proof that he wants to go to UM, or just speculation because he wants to be closer to home?

I agree. This is a well-thought out post IMO.

Agreed. This idea of teaching hometown kids a lesson is terrible. If he transfers elsewhere and thrives, no recruit is going to say "well Miami sure taught him." No recruit is likely to even be aware of what we tell or don't tell him.

Also, is there any proof that he wants to go to UM, or just speculation because he wants to be closer to home?

Seems to be just speculation at this time. But that's what we do on this board.

No proof as I doubt anyone wants to comment on a player on another teams roster. There are some twitter seeds as he started following Baez and had been tweeting pro UM stuff.

Pete is too tied into the program now, highly doubt he jeopardizes us losing one our committed WR's to "break" a story about Grimes. CIS is the redheaded stepchild now, we're going to have follow the twitter crumbs on this one.

I guess there won’t be “proof” til it’s official but feel pretty good saying it’s UM. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

This is purely a rumor so take it for what it's worth. A friend of mine says he works with someone close to Grimes' mom. Apparently, he walked in on his roomate (a member of OSU football team) attemting suicide. Huge hazing issues going on in Columbus and Urban is trying to sweep the issue under the rug. Once again, I don't have first hand knowledge of the situation. Just passing on what I heard. Could be total BS but the situation is kind of odd.

Don’t see how that would make any sense. Now he needs to stay closer to home cause of that? I mean if he was the one that attempted maybe....

I thought it was about his mom being sick or a family member that was sick. Which would make more sense on why he would need to stay closer to home.

I agree, doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless he's just using it as an excuse. All that said, I'm sure the kid will be back in Columbus in no time.
