one last attempt at defending coach d

At some point, the attempts to mask the failure with rosy spins have to stop. And that point is when it's dealer's choice for the 100th ranked offense in FBS--Vag Tech. They had guys running completely free on every pass play.

It's one thing if you run into an occasional offensive buzz saw like Baylor or fsu or Oregon or Tex A&M. But when Vag Tech hangs a million yards and 40+ on you, then you're not getting it done.

In fact, they're getting progressively worse, and that's my biggest problem with Corch Al and Corch Duh'. All the fans wanted and expected was steady improvement because the smart fans understood the bad hand he was dealt with depleted personnel and the ncaa cloud. It's not happening.

my gut tells me after the 2 fumbles and that akward punt turnover the defense just said what do we have to do to get a breather.

after the first 2 fumbles the defense shouldve still prevented VT from scoring 2 TDs.... the defense started out w/ enough field position w/ the weather to be able to force a punt or FG at worst.

the fact that you continue to make excuses for Dorito means that you get off on the wet dreams u have about him and ur just mentally retarded.

That's especially true against a shtty offense like VT. It's not like we were facing Baylor.

Duke's QB threw 4 INTs against Vag Tech. Did Vag Tech turn that into 28 quick points, or did Duke's defense bow up and answer the bell?

No D has used to soft conservative scheme to make the players look worst. I say baylor bringing every single player up to the LOS v OU, no fear straight attack. We back 30 yards off. Stop this nonsense. Booker T could stop Logan Thomas.

Exactly it's VT, if it was FSU, then ok.... but it's the ***n Hokies. i dont want to hear **** about 2 fumbles on Punt and Kick return.

Even though Duke's QB threw 4 interceptions, they still held VT to 10 points total. So it reads like their defense answered the bell to me.

Miami's STs fumble twice at the middle of the field in that **** storm and this defense couldnt prevent VT from scoring a TD anyway?

Even the punt fiasco that had VT start at our 17, couldve ended up in a FG if this defense had a pulse but i'll let that one slide.... really their is no excuse. the 1st play on that drive VTs nobody running back runs for 13 yards to get to the 4, and next play TD. Pathetic.

this..... D'onofrio wouldve played Blake Bells garbage *** the same way he played Logan Thomas. OFF 30 yards up the field like he's some all world QB while he just kills us w/ runs and short routes all game.

D'onofrio is a joke... he was a joke last year and now it's even worse b/c he's still here.

In case you haven't figured it out, OP is corch Donofrio himself. He masks his identity as well as he masks a blitz package.

I don't think people apologizing for this ginzo buffoon understand the argument that they are trying to make. If he needs Sr. All-Americans all over the place to not get anally pillaged by the 100th ranked offense in the country, then he isn't a good DC. A good DC utilizes a scheme that relies the most on what his players do best. Instead of consistently trying to fit round pegs into square holes and then blaming the pegs for being round.

Oh he can be a good DC if he gets 'Bama-level talent on defense? Awesome. So can the other 123 D-1 DC's. What separates the wheat from the chaff after that is what those other DC's can do when they don't have future NFL All-Pros scattered across their field.

And all of this is ignoring the question of, "Can this staff even recruit at a consistently high enough level to mask the obvious shortcomings in Dorito's scheme?" Because the way it sounds, they're going to have to be perfect. Can't have busts or injuries otherwise you might as well flush the season down the *******. You can't rely on the stars aligning every single year for this guy to continue to pretend to be a competent DC.

I hope the irony of Dorito complaining about "soft" players while at the same time running a defense soft enough to make baby **** look like granite isn't lost on anyone.

- Through our last 5 games (All ACC games) we are allowing an average of 465 yards per game

- Good for 109th in the country

- During that 5 game stretch, we are allowing 31.4 points per game.

- Good for 93rd in the country.

- We are averaging allowing 7.6 out of 15 attempts of 3rd downs to be converted a game

- 119th in the country

- We have sacked the QB an average of 1.8 times a game

- 76th in the country

We don't need a roster full of 5 stars to shut down pathetic offenses.

A coordinator that knows what he's doing can take marginal players and make them look decent by putting them in positions to succeed..

Pretty much this.

Scheme was alright, but the tackling was not, especially our safeties.

I would have blitzed more and not used Chick or Green as much. Both are good players but not for this game. Coach D and Coach Coley need to improve their game day coaching. Not really impressed with the adjustments that are being made, and not being made.

It was a rainy day (we got blown out the last time we played VT in the rain), and we were coming off an emotional loss and the loss of our best player. I wish I would have bet the game. Herbstreet picked VT and he knows our team pretty well. Beamer always brings down a good coached football team and the turnovers by the freshman (Coley and Burns) were too much to overcome.

The scheme was and is terrible

you wanna know why there were so many missed tackles? b/c of this joke gameplan to have DBs and LBs all up field 15-30 yards and force them to have to make solo tackles all game in slippery wet conditions.... that's a scheme issue, not a talent issue.

D'onofrio is pathetic he put the defense in positions to fail all game and never thought about making a single adjustment.... his blitz packages are pathetic, his 3rd down pressure packages have been exposed and figured out by Off. Coordinators.... simple there will never be a rush up the middle just move up in the pocket and McCord and AQM will take themselves out of the play.

Linebackers always show that they are blitzing b/c if they arent 10 yards away from the LOS then prepare for a blitz. smh

Sending Shayon Green 10 yards up the field or 10 yards out wide away from the LOS is embarrassing.... so he's suppose to make a solo tackle in the rain as well out in the middle of the field? lol gtfoh

all of this is prevent soft bs defense.... it's not a defense at all, it's DORITOS.

I believe that D'Onofrio is an in-your-face coach who preaches toughness and demands a lot, but that is more likely to make him fail here than succeed unless he turns things around VERY quickly. We've seen this before with Whipple. These are highly recruited players who believe that they are really good. When they stink playing your system and yet you are blasting them every day in practice, how long before they turn on you? You can be that type of coach if you get results. When you don't, you alienate people and get fired.

I think that's what you're seeing on the field. When this team starts to get down, the defense usually folds like a tent and quickly. I think it's a function of 2 things - physical fatigue of constantly being out there, and emotional fatigue in that you know you're playing a defense that gets gashed yet there's nothing you can do about it. That has to be demoralizing for a player.

Remember When Wake Forest took their wide splits and Dorito had us engaging the tackle and the DE's rushing from 20 yds away. I wish I had a photo of it. Even lowly Syracuse figured that out quick and had a linebacker roam the gaps presnap and shoot them so that Wake had to abandon it. Stanford did the same thing against Oregon. THis was defensive buffoonery.

MY GOD Miami has the worst DC in CFB smh

No excuses are possible for Coach D, none. He has been at it for three years, results are very, very inconsistent and it's time to make a change. It is probably making Al Golden sick, but best friend or not, it's time for a change. No defense is possible or acceptable.

perhaps it's because i knew people who played for him at temple. they said he is an in your face, smashmouth type. he has little tolerance for soft players. i think in private if you ask him, he would say are upperclassmen are soft. However, he hasnt had a chance to coach elite linemen yet. for christs sakes, they had to get a backup dlineman from Virginia and gilbert who has one good foot. that being said, look at the above average talent he has coached. Denzel is an nfl linebacker, tracy is all acc, tyriq is growing into a playmaker, deon will be healthy next year, jenkins has become a playmaker. even jag's like olsen pierre and armbrister have alot gotten into the rotation. i think if this man coached travonte valentine and chad thomas for 3 years and did nothing, then we have an argument. but when your defense is on the field as much as ours mainly because offense can move the ball, they get exhausted, even with fsu depth, that's hard to do. the guarentee aqm, grace, kirby, and figs all make a difference next year along with artie and jamal carter. i think its a personnel issue and at this point i am not ready to give up on him
