On the OL offers...

5-7, 7-5, 10-2 Trust the process. I agree with Larry Bluestein. We need to give the guys we have in place a shot at QB. Bring a QB in from the portal, but let him know we are having an open competition. Focus on the defense. Let our crazy talented O-line and RBs win the ACC and go into the playoffs year 4.

Really? He looked good to me. Played every game and I don't remember more than a bad snap or two. Not saying he's an NFL guy or anything but feels like he met expectations.
he was solid, lee was legit ... but your right, he wasn't glaring, which is a good sign ... super excited about the sj kid, almost want to give him the position from jump next year

A lot of people are wondering why Miami is offering so many OLs, including some young guys who have yet to play.

The answer is two-fold. First, and most importantly, the roster is shrinking while scholarships are going up to 105. That means that you will lose walk-ons but have more room to horde developmental scholarship kids. As there are 5 offensive linemen on the field at a time, you need volume there to run a practice and field a scout team.

Second, Mirabal is the most trusted developer on the staff. The more guys he can develop in a cost-efficient manner, the more money is available for other positions in need of immediate help and resources.

Keep an eye on two premium spots: CB and DT. We are bringing a ton of CBs on campus, with a focus on college snaps and physical tools. We don't want to be FSU and rely on guys who have never played. A couple of names are public (Ethan O'Conner and Emmanuel Karnley), but there will be a ton more. At DT, we want a legit dude to post up next to our homegrown guys (Justin Scott, Ahmad Moten, Josh Horton). Quality over quantity, which is different than the past at that position.

It makes sense, especially with this relatively new trend of 1st and 2nd year OLmen stepping into the transfer portal. Many of them with good measureables who were highly-recruited out of HS. Many of these kids have potential to develop into elite college fb players, especially considering that many quality college OLmen may take 2 years or more to develop.
Basically, re-recruiting kids a year out of HS.
Crazy stuff.

I have a feeling the G5 schools will be increasing the bills to play @P4 schools. They are going to lose a ton of talent every year to the portal/P4 schools. They are going to have increased costs to field teams due to the portal and now 105 ships.

Makes sense… they know and are more comfortable with identifying and offering OL, this coincides with the scholly numbers going up. When it comes to DBs though, not so confident.

Kinda OT but I know IU has still offered walk ons. I was told they could keep the walk ons if they stay at 85 scholarships so the new limit seems kinda optional?
I think now the limit is 85 scholarship players and 120 total including walk ons. The new limit would be 105 total whether they are scholarship players or walk ons. You can, but are not required to, have more than 85 and up to 105 scholarship players. I think what Cignetti is saying about going over 85 costing you $2.5 million is that increasing the number of scholarships you offer to 105 will just cost you a lot more money and dilute your talent. But I am not sure if that is what he meant or if there are some other implications on revenue sharing for going over 85. Maybe if you go to 105 then Title IX policy will redirect some funds to other sports or something (which could also vary by school). Who knows.

“Keep an eye on two premium spots: CB and DT”- Oh we have been and what we’ve seen is more quantity over quality at both of those positions, especially at DB. Insanity has been described as doing the same thing and expecting different results; thus far I’m seeing the same thing (approach) with whose being offered and brought in soooo…I’ll be keeping my eye 👁️ on it.
Let's take 30 CBs and figure it out. 🤣

Is hoarding really possible in the portal era? Kids are leaving as freshmen and sophmore more now than ever before.
Not even the Texas schools and their money seem to be able to hoard anything right now

Also not too sure on the development of our OL. Cooper started as a freshman. Bell started in his first year. Mauigoa obviously. Is that development? What about guys like McCoy, Kinsler, Tripp, Samson etc where we are still hitting the portal this hard?

Not saying we can’t or won’t (OL guys can and should take time) but where is this faith coming from? Genuine question not even trying to be a ****.

Scott, Moten, Horton, yes, but why no mention of Jones? He was highly coveted, no?
