A lot of people are wondering why Miami is offering so many OLs, including some young guys who have yet to play.

The answer is two-fold. First, and most importantly, the roster is shrinking while scholarships are going up to 105. That means that you will lose walk-ons but have more room to horde developmental scholarship kids. As there are 5 offensive linemen on the field at a time, you need volume there to run a practice and field a scout team.

Second, Mirabal is the most trusted developer on the staff. The more guys he can develop in a cost-efficient manner, the more money is available for other positions in need of immediate help and resources.

Keep an eye on two premium spots: CB and DT. We are bringing a ton of CBs on campus, with a focus on college snaps and physical tools. We don't want to be FSU and rely on guys who have never played. A couple of names are public (Ethan O'Conner and Emmanuel Karnley), but there will be a ton more. At DT, we want a legit dude to post up next to our homegrown guys (Justin Scott, Ahmad Moten, Josh Horton). Quality over quantity, which is different than the past at that position.

When does 105 officially begin?

Isn't it all based on court case settlement?
It seems to be unclear at this point, but my understanding based on what Curt Cignetti said at his signing day presser: the settlement goes into effect April 15, revenue sharing starts July 1, and roster limits will be sometime after that (maybe August 1 to beginning of the season).

Thanks D$! Cignetti said the following at his signing day presser and I’m wondering if you have any idea what he means by this:

In theory, if a team wanted to offer 100 -- let's say the number is 105. If a team wanted to offer 105 scholarships, they could, but as soon as you go over 85, it takes 2.5 million off the cap right off the bat.

“Keep an eye on two premium spots: CB and DT”- Oh we have been and what we’ve seen is more quantity over quality at both of those positions, especially at DB. Insanity has been described as doing the same thing and expecting different results; thus far I’m seeing the same thing (approach) with whose being offered and brought in soooo…I’ll be keeping my eye 👁️ on it.

got to think with a drop off in qb our offense will be more likely run than pass oriented?

I’m confused. Are we taking development talent out of the portal or we are taking starters out of the portal because most of our guys on the roster are developmental?

Mario, the “elite” recruiter, has been taking a quantity not quality approach to the portal. NOW that’s changed.

Wish casting

Kinda OT but I know IU has still offered walk ons. I was told they could keep the walk ons if they stay at 85 scholarships so the new limit seems kinda optional?

Is hoarding really possible in the portal era? Kids are leaving as freshmen and sophmore more now than ever before.

This is why we need to cut our losses with the defensive staff because if you really only have one coach who is trusted enough to be giving autonomy then Miami will continue to have to a unbalance positions that are developed vs portal.

I truly hope Mario hires reputable coaches based on Xs and Os because the NIL era is all about $$$ and which defense/offense can showcase a players skillset. Recruiting don't even matter anymore

Am I reading this correct. We will go after several cheaper developmental OL, but we will be picky and go expensive with DT/DB's?
