On Judd Anderson

Wait didn’t this team beat OSU?

Yes they did and it was on the road, too. Great win.

You know what else that Anthony Brown-led team did? They got boatraced by Utah twice, scoring a grand total of 17 points combined in those two losses.

I’ve mostly given up on offensive skills recruiting for the interim. Just build from the trenches out. There’s more than one way to build a team. It’s not pretty but really, what choices do we have at this moment? At least Mario can recruit that at a high level. Kill other teams in the trenches and then add the remaining skills pieces.
Even if you have a dominant OL you need skill position players. Giving up on them ain’t the answer IMO.

There’s so much copium in this thread right now I can’t keep up.

If we won the battle for Noland, we wouldn’t be seeing any of these “premier QB’s aren’t necessary” posts. It would’ve been an endless stream of booty gifs, optimism about flipping Jeremiah Smith, and posts about how much of a domino effect landing a top QB would have on the rest of the offensive class, especially at WR.

But because we lost the battle for the only premier QB recruit who was giving Miami the time of day, the narrative some are running with now comes off as pure spin.

Some want to just point to the portal as the solution to Mario’s QB recruiting woes, but who was Mario’s most recent portal QB he signed and relied upon in his coaching career? Anthony Brown at Oregon. Oof.
i agree 1000x with your post
i also find it funny that if you spine towards positive no matter how absurb it sounds its considered good info
but if you objectively call out failures, its called trolling
why cant the narrative be that we just missed big
and now we are way behind the 8 ball and mario needs to work harder to make up for it
all this is doing is setting this kid up with massively unrealistic expectations

My brotha from anotha; in all due respect, that 2017 Clemson team was loaded. Lol. You’re forgetting Clemson also had 1st round pick Mike Williams on that team, future NFL Pro-Bowl WR Hunter Renfrow, & a defense that flooded the NFL.

Clemson has been a consistent 11-15th ranked recruiting class. In fact, since Dabo has been HC since the 2009 recruiting cycle (15 cycles), out of those 15 cycles Clemson’s classes has finished top 10 only 5x, only two which were in the top 5.

I know that’s hard to fathom with all the success they’ve been having since 2011, but it’s true. It’s why I consider him a **** good coach b/c compared to how O$U, UGA, & Bama recruit, he’s done much more w/ a less caliber roster. Dabo’s success has pretty much been predicated on the QB position & a strong defense. It started w/ Tahj Boyd, then continued on through Lawrence. DJ was a big disappointment, but still managed to win 10+ games w/ him. If Cade lives up to the hype, Clemson will still be a major thorn.
The one thing with Clemson that you have to factor in though is they they have lower ranked classes because they tend to go smaller in total class size and have lower attrition. Their average class rating is typically the same as the OSU, UGA, Bama average class rating.

We've signed 1 top 10 WR since 2019 Jeremiah Payton.
We've signed 2 top 10 TE since 2019 Jaleel Skinner, E Arroyo
We've signed 2 top 10 RB since 2019 (Citizen never took a snap)
Not a great foundation for a QB.

Why are we ignoring how UGA’s vaunted defenses gave up 40+ against the Bryce Young-led Bama offense with a healthy Williams/Metchie duo at WR and 40+ against the CJ Stroud-led OSU offense with Harrison/Egbuka in the semifinal last year?

Could you imagine a Miami offense performing at that level against the most stacked defense in the country instead of getting booed for kicking a field goal in the closing seconds of a massacre to avoid getting shutout against Clemson (see 2017) or putting up less than 100 total yards in a game?

The elite QB/WR model has proven to be as sustainable as any in modern day CFB. If throwing most of your money at DL was the clear-cut best strategy, then why isn’t Texas A&M a dominant program right now with the DL classes they’ve landed in recent years?
shhhhh. UGA doesnt even win title 1 if Bama had healthy WRs for the title game.

He was #4 but as a 2023 recruit I'm sure you realize he hasn't been on the team during regular season to factor him in. I'm speaking on past production not future.
That’s only a 4 year stretch from 19-23. I wouldn’t include TE on that list to have 2 in 4 years.

It wouldn't be better to include a longer stretch. I was putting the current roster composition into context. Dragging up the last 20 years does nothing we all know we sucked. Expecting project QBs to accomplish anything while inheriting a mediocre cast of skill players is stupid. If Judd and Emory and Wilmer are the future we need to be bringing in top 10 players yearly not once every half decade.

Judd Anderson, a three-star QB out Jones County High in Gray (GA), has committed to Miami.

Miami also wanted to sign Air Noland, who is headed to Ohio State. But make no mistake- Miami's pursuit of Judd Anderson is independent of anything that happened with Noland. He is, and has been, a major priority for them.

They love his frame (6'6 in person), athleticism (19/14 in hoops as a sophomore) and arm strength. He's also a 4.0 student and a home run off the field. Shannon Dawson is a driving force in this recruitment and believes this kid could be a monster as he continues to develop as a dropback passer. Anderson previously played in a Wing T, and they believe the game film is more telling than the stats. Internally, his recruitment has been compared to Emory Williams- a guy who outperformed Jaden Rashada at the Elite 11 and has made an outstanding impression so far in spring.

For those who will say that Miami is just scrambling following the departure of Air Noland, here is a snippet from the March 3rd edition of the Bank:

Mac jones wouldn't win without elite talent around him. our skill talent that we even brought in last cycle isn't enough if you're settling on project Qbs

I can’t wait to see what WR recruits he brings in with his 16TDs, 13INTs and immobility in a ******* Wing-T offense.

I played in that offense in high school back in the 90s and even our QB didn’t throw more than 5 INTs and he was a D2 QB. It’s a running offense.

******* sad if this will be the only QB. Please stop comparing this dude to Emory. He’s not ******* Emory in terms of Athleticism, stats, projection.

Those are not his stats from playing in wing t…he played in the wing t his sophomore year..these are his stats from his junior year playing in a more open offense…I want to see what he does his senior year he has some good tools to me

Our two best teams over the last 20 years (‘03 and ‘17) had terrible to average QB play. Great defensive lines.

Meanwhile, we’ve averaged 6 wins with a future NFL QB in Tyler Van Dyke.
The best defensive linemen we've had in recent seasons were Willis, Rousseau and Phillips. Willis played on a 7-6 team. Rousseau's team went 6-7 and Phillips' squad went 8-3 because they were carried by a star quarterback and a high scoring offense.

He didnt throw the picks in a wing T. They transistioned from the wing T is So year, then threw the picks in the new offense. If u watch his film u would see its not a wing T. But like most u went to 247, yup trash.
