OJ Frédérique (Is Not Hurt)

This is what I've been saying.

In that situation, who do you put at the nickel/star? My suggestion was transition to more of a hybrid LB instead of a CB and play more of Pruitt or Bobby Washington who are athletic enough to cover. I think you opposed that when I made the suggestion, maybe it was someone else.

Any solution has its flaws it seems until Damari is healthy. But I think Porter/OJ at the boundary is the best and most formidable change we can make. Battle it out for the nickel spot and let someone rise up. Dylan Day, Pruitt, ZP, etc
I like that verses certain formations/offenses... but versus spread/10-personnel schemes our Nickel is asked to cover slot WR's in space. You kinda need a CB body there.

Definitely depends on matchup and situational. I think we could get by with Pruitt in that role though.

Maybe I'm wrong.

Bobby is a good athlete but we don’t wanna do that… JaCorey Brooks started eating against us once they moved him into the slot. And seeing as we don’t follow (put our best cover guy on a teams best receiver wherever he lines up which is what we should be doing) we’ll end up with bad results.

Remember what Toney from UF did to Gil Frierson when chose to let him cover the slot guy? It was ugly

You feel comfortable with Pruitt running vertical with a slot WR? Or on a slot fade?
Depending on the matchup, yes. Against someone like Restrepo who is just going to cook him with route running, no. Louisville with Caullin Lacey, probably not. Against FSU, Wake, Syracuse, and also the rest of our schedule I think I would.

He has a top 10 gps mph on the team. Probably one of the best shuttles on the team. A true low 4.5s 40 guy. He's probably the exception to the rule of our LBs being able to play it that way.

The biggest flaw on this defense, outside of breakdowns in coverage, is not having a lock down nickel. Porter has been roasted all year, especially on 3rd and short. Although I do feel he has played better the last couple games. But I still have nightmares of him in the slot against USF. Cam Pruitt or Washington would not fix that problem. We need someone who can cover the slot and do it well.

The secondary is bad and Kiko in space is not good either

Anybody know of a timeline for Damaris return?

@lindend posted a summary of Geo's Recruiting & Team Buzz. In it he wrote:
  • Damari hopefully back by the WF/Syracuse timeline but it could be close
That aligns with a podcast by @DMoney earlier this week or last week where he said they're hoping to get him back prior to the ACCCG.
