Official visits issues

This is the first year this has ever been an issue that I recall in my history of following recruiting. I literally didn’t know a limit existed until this year. No surprise it coincides with a HC that breathes recruiting.

Good problem to have I guess. What we’ve done has worked to the tune of a top 5 class so far. Just have to have a high hit rate from here on out as OP mentions.

That last part is true no matter what.

Used to be that all the OVs took place from roughly September to January. Now that recruiting has gone year-round, and a kid who is a "lock" in June is flipping in November, we MIGHT need to talk to the NCAA to change some of these rules.

But, yeah, we are "short" on OV spots, but not as bad as Gaby makes it out to be.

EDIT: ****, don't even get me started on coaching changes. What if Manny had used up all the OVs before Mario was ever hired? Or maybe we can treat "High School OVs" and "Portal OVs" differently. After all, very few Portal kids have the time to make 5 OVs, and with bowl season, very few schools have the time to host all their Portal candidates on OVs.

Gaby may as well question Ruiz on how he invests his money while he’s at it

He starts off saying "I believe"

How about you know for sure before telling us you hack reporter
I would say that is semantics… I’m not sure it’s a problem but it’s a potential issue to keep an eye for sure. Mario denied a 5 star an OV earlier in M’Pemba because they didn’t think they could land him, so it’s clear Mario has been on top of this for a while but it is something to monitor.

Yeah to your point and what OCF said this will be something that will likely have to change because it’s an issue for everyone now

Not sure what the problem is, a lot of these portal kids can come down on there own and some didn’t even visit before deciding.

The class will be pretty much filled after Wednesday. What exactly do we need all the other visits for?
Transfers and kids that won’t sign early

So what I'm hearing is we never used all of our allocated visits per Mario or is this a new rule? First I've heard of us being close to out of visits before. Welcome to big boy recruiting.

Gaby reporting:

I hear We may run into an OV problem….but Maybe not….maybe we will……but I don’t think we will……unless we do……but I’m pretty sure we won’t…..

But just thinking we might from what I heard …… but I’m pretty sure we’re ok cause I might of probably have probably did hear wrong…..

Right. He's literally counting down our number of OVs with NO ACTUAL INFORMATION of who is taking an OFFICIAL vs. an unofficial.

I know, I know, now some CIS porsters are going to come into the thread to try to shame me about how Gaby has mouths to feed and whatnot...
no, but you don't know that he is "guessing" for all any of us know that's what he's been told.

This is getting to be a big enough problem that it needs a thread. Here’s the latest update from Gaby.

”I believe Miami has 19 left for the cycle. Tunmise Adeleye (mid-week), Javion Cohen, Thomas Gore, Dont’e Thornton bring it down to 15 in terms of transfers.

Antione Jackson, Robby and Bobby Washington, Rueben Bain, Mark Fletcher, Stanquan Clark make it roughly 9 visits left. That’s assuming nobody else comes which I wouldn’t bet on. Again, hit rate has to be HIGH.”

Are there separate limits for HS recruits and transfers?

It’s always been a rule but it was something most never worried about when you can only sign about 25 per year. This year is unique because ICs are gone, the portal is now in full effect, and for Miami in particular we are trying to flip a roster.

Pretty sure it is becoming more of an issue due to the transfer portal. We are now basically recruiting for TWO classes in one year ... the regular 2023 class which will be roughly 25 players .... then another 10-15 portal additions.

One thing I don’t understand: since they (temporarily) lifted the limit on how many recruits/portal guys we can bring in, wouldn’t it make sense to temporarily lift this restriction along with it?

Yes, still have the 85 scholarship limit, but with some schools having to bring in more than they usually would, makes sense to allow a bit more freedom on visits with the numbers being higher.

Alas, it is the NCAA we’re talking about here lol
