Offense is great, defense is.... offensive (thoughts on Duke win)

Very good?

What do you consider great then?
I'll call it great. I can agree with that. "Very good" probably not accurate enough. I think the passing game is even elite at times. The run game is getting better and better each game. If we can just avoid the let down in the 2nd qtr. That qtr seems to be our nemesis for the offense where we just have a hard time moving the ball.

I appreciate these from you @k9cane & especially agree with the following

Again, with this offense and Ward, you want more plays, quicker tempo. They wear teams down, but not necessarily the traditional way

My general thoughts. X. IS. GREAT. Thanks to his momma & the rest of his family for raising him right & bringing us a true cane legend. The way he handles his business is something we all can look up to & try to emulate. ****, this game was a perfect encapsulation of what he is as a player & man. Dedication & hard work to break records & have himself a day while persevering through a couple of mistakes. Just another day at the office for the our hardest working cane.

Jacolby George is a football player. An emotional one. It doesn't surprise me his penalties & behavior offends & triggers alot of you delicate *** ******* looking to **** on our players about any & everything. But while yall crying about his penalties & "attitude"(lol), I'm loving his passion & engagement in the game. Dude saved brashard Smith from looking like a clown last year by covering up his fumble on a would be td. He never complains about not getting targets, or at least it never shows in the effort of his play. He stays blocking his *** off & blocked 2 guys on X's record making td. He could be emotional & short sighted but he ain't selfish.

What we saw from Zaquan has been happening for a couple of games now. I'm sure he still has alot to learn but they need to keep his *** out there as much as possible!

I love OJ Frederique.

Baron has been active doing multiple things for us out there even though he hasn't been making the splash plays as of late & I appreciate it. However he has shown you 2 times over the last 2 games what actual stupid penalties look like.

25 finally made a play!... then got hurt. Glad he went out making something happen. Hoping for a speedy recovery.

**** Manny Diaz

forgot to mention the contributions of one of my personal favorites -- Elija Lofton. His return on the short kickoff really gave UM great field position that they capitalilzed on

Also scored a TD (one of many to come in the future)

I believe this 'Human Swiss Army Knife' has earned a bigger role in the offense moving forward

And of course, hats off to 'Juice Fred', who has become our best cornerback

X is a guy who this week will probably focus on a few of the passes he got his hands on and didn't come up with. That's why he's an all-time great Hurricane

Now it's time to see if we can get some young DB's to be serviceable enough to play serious minutes

Just keep winning-

Hopefully we get Brown back soon-

The offense is the best in the country they can score on anyone-

Defense did play better and we had those takeaways that put it away.

this d is pathetic. thats all. if we dont win a title, it'll be bc of the d. id move on from Guidry

Offense is very good. Dawson isn't perfect, but I think he's been very good so far this year. Yes, he is lucky to have Cam. I give him B+. We usually start off strong the first 1-2 drive and then go in a shell for some reason. Watching each game, I believe some of those stalled drives are due to Cam trying to make something big out of a play when its just not there. Just take the easy stuff and we keep moving the ball. It's very frustrating.

Defense is another story. Below average to just awful. D-line has underperformed with exception of Barrow. Bain is nonexistent in the first half, but an absolute terror midway thru the 3rd qtr and for the remainder of the game. Linebackers are awful and getting worse each game. Secondary is awful and has been awful outside of OJ.

Fortunately, there are no elite teams this year, but I'm not sure we can keep up with the handful of really good teams with this defense.

Sorry, how do give Dawson and offense a B+ at this point? They are currently the number 1 offense and 9-0. They can only pass the test they have in front of them, not the hypothetical one that you think they may fail. I will give them the A. I won't give them the plus due to the issues you raised.

Our run game is getting better, but there is no creativity. It's just run up the gut. It's been working good the last few games, but I still want to see some better designed run plays. Martinez and Fletcher have been bull dozers. We might be able to keep bullying teams in the run game with just simple stuff. We get to the ACC championship game or playoffs, I have concerns it might not be enough.

Miami goes to 9-0, it wasn't always easy and lets admit, as #Canes fans we were *****ing and moaning in the 3rd quarter as they went down 28-17. But that's the great thing about Air Cristobal, having an explosive offense makes things so much easier and can cover up a defense that quite frankly, isn't great.

The Canes scored 36 points in the second half on their way to a 53-31 victory over the Manny Diaz Blue Devils.

A few thoughts:

- Cam Ward is who he is. You have to live with the good and bad with him. Quick start, then missed a few open throws, scuffled in the second quarter. Then after a terrible cross-field INT with an 8 point lead, he throws big time shots for a TD to put Duke away. That's Ward in a nutshell. He still frustrates me a bit when he doesn't pick up the loose, easy change on the underneath stuff,

- This team is a bit of the 2017 team in reverse. That squad had an offense that was inconsistent and a defense that was very good and opportunistic. But the '24 Air Cristobal team is just the opposite. And quite frankly, they probably need 40-plus points a game to cover them up a bit. When you can score (and as quickly as the Canes can) it gives you a much bigger margin of error

- I'll say this again, Xavier Resterpo is an an all-time great Miami Hurricane. I said before the season he'd go down as the greatest pure slot WR in program history, but his legacy goes FAR beyond that. Google him

- Unfortunately Jadais Richard got hurt during his INT. So does that mean Robert Stafford is now pressed into action? Damari Brown can't come back soon enough

- The real football experts can get into this, but Lance Guidry's defensive plan in the first half was mind-boggling considering this secondary. They really need Bain and Comp. upfront to harass quarterbacks late in games. There was a stretch when Malik Murphy looked like Doug Williams in the Super Bowl. Keep in mind, this is an offense that had 180 total yards vs FSU two weeks ago, and hadn't scored more than 27 this whole season. They had 28 after the opening drive of the second half

- On the flipside, Duke hadn't give up more than 28(in an overtime game against SMU), and they could've easily gotten to 60 when it was all said and done. Again, with this offense and Ward, you want more plays, quicker tempo. They wear teams down, but not necessarily the traditional way

- Didn't love that RPO late in the game that got Ward hit and the ensuing fumble. Personally, I just run the ball up the gut and keep Cam clean.

- This team isn't perfect(far from it) but as I said before, just enjoy this ride. Week in and week out, they our incredibly entertaining
The Offense is entertaining! The Defense is exasperating!!
