OC Discussion Thread

Are you saying McDonald for OC?

Maybe someday but we can definitely do better than that.

Bates was terrible in USC, no thanks.

Bates was at USC for one year and was the QB coach. Johnnie Morton called the plays. So how exactly are you measuring how terrible he was from afar?

Incorrect sir.

The year Carrol hired him, he was the OC for the Broncos under Shanahan. USC paid him $1M to coach per season and a huge deal was made because a coach left the league to go CFB.

Are you telling me that USC paid $1M to Bates to coach QB's?

Yes. He was the Assistant Head Coach and QB Coach, not the OC. Morton was the OC.

Morton was the OC but I think Bates called the plays from the field. USC always had a weird arrangement with the OC spot. Sarkisian and Kiffen split duties also.

it really is mind boggling that people post stuff like that with confidence.

So you're saying this guy shouldn't be our next OC?

What has mcDonald accomplished as an OC that has people longing to track that shortsighted traitor down and bring him here? We will do better.

His resume would look facking hilarious if he came back.

But I'm not sure you can trust a guy who clearly would jump the first chance of any thing close to a promotion/pay raise.

The only problem I have with OP is that (as much as a I love Stephen) he is not the best QB in the ACC, but 2nd best is still pretty **** good!

Who do you think is better? Boyd could be but it depends on the offense. From a pure drop back and pass, Stephen is tough to beat.

this is probably true but college coordinators are inherently always in a position to jump up, unless you happen to be kirby smart or something. but even bama lost its off coordinator before this season.

i think you hire the best guy you can and hope you can keep him for as long as possible. even muschamp was a defensive coordinator at 3 different schools.

This is impossible to follow when the threads are mergers. D$ who would take the job if offered and what do you think about Mario. I am pretty sure he has never called plays.

Co-offensive coordinators . . . Mario with responsibility for run game and Ken Dorsey developing quarterbacks and in charge of passing game.

I was thinking Taj, but you do have a point in the pure pocket passer thinking. Since we will and always should run a pro offense, that is important.

The Ducks OC since they are not promoting him to HC and when they hire a new one he might not get to keep his job.
