Notes On Jesus Machado's Offer

The maxed out thing is what I worry with Machado. I also see the straight line speed, but a little leary of change of direction...Seems to have decent instincts and fends off blocks decent for a kid 1st year playing backer.

Yeah he seems a little tight. But he plays fast and seems to diagnose quickly (of course, it’s a HL reel).

Definitely better than Mathis.

Ehhh I think both have strengths and weaknesses, different players...He's faster than mathis. I wasn't as down on Mathis as some after that senior tape.

I remember this kid's soph tape when he was getting SEC offer type...Man if he would have kept growing he would have been a terror off the edge. But I don't think he's hopeless as run stuffing backer either.

if the Flemming ship has sailed...And this kid is gone.

Give me Poitier and Emilen please...Damon Alford should get consideration too as a WR that could grown into TE. K.Long from tampa should be back on the radar too

But this staff not exactly known for having well organized backup plans and tiers are they?

You can do a lot worse than Machado.

You could - but this is a Miami program with a long tradition at LB. You could and should be able to land top, 1st choice kids each year at that position. Offering a local kid this late, one who's been on the radar for years, seems off to me.

Good source? First I've heard of this

It would make sense ,the staff is so set on taking full classes they won’t f with any kid’s that’s remotely close to qualifying. The kid’s know it too.

If he only becomes Mike Smith...he's still worth the offer.

There is low key growth potential, too. Couldn't shock me if he has a growth spurt.

Mike Smith is his ceiling (imo). I actually don't think he's stiff but whatever his 40 time is it doesn't translate on the field. When he has to pursue to the sideline he gives ground and takes very conservative angles. Those backs in his highlights didn't seem fast at all yet he was tackling them 8-9 yards down the field on the perimeter.

Regardless the bigger problem is he plays with zero force or violence. He's a catch/wrap tackler who doesn't unload his hips on contact, and there are plenty of examples where he has the chance to hit an easy target and just reaches his arms at it. I hesitate to call a HS kid soft but that may be the case here. He will have major issues with tackling either way.

I guess his footwork and movement skills are solid and he isn't slow to diagnose. He's better than Mathis but still far from Miami caliber imo. I just don't see the upside beyond getting a backup who's superior to Ragu.

This kid would have been a solid last minute flyer but I don't think we need him unless we whiff on all other LB prospects like Flowe and Greene. McCloud, Joyner, Jennings, Steed, Brooks, and Huff then add TAC and Flagg is a pretty good mix of guys.
