Not breaking news, but…

I’m not defending anything Lane did previously as a HC at any stop. But an undeniable point is, Lane has gotten better as a coach the longer he’s done it. Mario has not gotten any better since the first job he got.

I respect your opinion, brother.

TrumpyCane wants to know why you think they would take Kiffin over Hugh freeze
Auburn fans/booster are a peculiar bunch. I “live” in bama and know former players and boosters. Some of the reasons they wanted him over Freeze (not in any particular order).

1. He’s a good a coach and has a higher winning % at Ole Miss than Freeze did and did it without getting them into trouble like Freeze.

2. They wanted the buzz and offensive mind. Have had success in recent past going that route (according to some). Think Malzahn with Cam Newton. Did not want a defensive minded coach.

3. Coached under Saban (biggest rival) and knows where the bodies are buried and his methods.

4. To needle bama.

From a guy who had 2 brothers that played for Auburn: “They got second best available. Less BUZZ and more baggage. That’s why Lane was one. But Lane thinks he is getting bama.”

Some say one of the reasons he didnt take the Auburn job is that he knew the door would be closed on the bama job if he took the Auburn job. Also, if you go 10-3 at Ole Miss with losing to bama a couple of times you are a king. If you go 10-3 at Auburn and lose to bama couple of times you better have the moving trucks ready.

Real question - If you had your choice of a head coach here right now, knowing what you know at this moment, would you choose Lane or Mario, if those were the two choices?
Here’s another real question. What are the Lane Train bros gonna say if he loses to UGA and then skids to a 5-loss season to close out the year. It’s been known to happen…

All right….I’ve read 30 pages and I can’t take it anymore. Multiple things can be true at once and this board’s inability to understand nuance never ceases to amaze me. Here are my thoughts:

1) Mario has 100% injected his philosophy into this offense. To what degree, I’m not sure. I’m certain he’s heavily involved in the planning process, but I doubt he’s micromanaging Dawson as much as some of you claim.

2) Dawson has done a **** poor job of coaching up TVD. We got a D1 quarterback with NFL hype who doesn’t understand how to beat different zone defenses. He’s making mistakes a high school QB doesn’t make. As the QB coach, wtf has he done to help TVD improve since the GT game?

3) TVD is injured. And ya, he’s missing throws he used to make because of it. But the mental side of his game taking a giant **** is more startling. Emory may not have the arm of TVD, but I’m more concerned about whether or not he’s cerebral enough to be a game manager for the duration of the season.

4) We probably can’t run some of things you guys want anymore because we have zero confidence in our QB, which is sad. But, more importantly, teams are matching up against us differently than A&M did and we simply don’t have an answer.

5) I don’t care what side of the coin you fall on, but you should want to beat FSU’s *** on Saturday. If you don’t, **** you!

complaining about CIS' malfunction of not being able to appreciate nuance and reasoning, in a long post containing nuance and reasoning.

oh, the irony!

He ain’t losing to UL Monroe. I think you have him confused with Mario C.
Maybe not. But Kiffin started out 8-1 last year before skidding to an 8-5 finish with a loss to Texas Tech at the end.

Maybe Texas Tech is better than UL Monroe.

🤷‍♂️

Actually started 7-0. 3 straight years starting 8-1 at Ole Miss which has never been done before. Lane does more with less which I have always thought a Miami coach would need to do given our lack of support.

No coach is perfect even JJ and Butch had flaws. JJ finished 8-5 his first year coming off a team that had just won the title (although there were extenuating circumstances for that). I could only imagine what would have been said if this board was around then.

The Lane Train would be run out of town and off a cliff by this board if he ended on a four-game losing streak like he did last year. But since he's doing more with less at Ole Miss, it's all good.

true, but then you look at oregon now on offense with a worse QB and theyre basically nothing like what htey were under mario. theyre a league better in a much tougher Pac 12
Well schit Mario did all the heavy lifting and left the program in a great state and set.

Lol Mario C. Went 5-7 with a loss to MTSU. He isn’t being run out of town. I would think if Lane went 10-3 the year before he MIGHT get some leeway (doubtful) but once he followed it up with another 10 win season I think he would be ok. How’s Mario doing in his second season? Is he even going to get to 8 wins? So basically Lanes floor is Mario’s ceiling (for now).

Unfortunately we can't run Mario Corchobal out of town. His ridiculous contract ensures that. Lane would have killed it here, for half the money

Yeah the guy who says someone who coached at USC, Tenn, Bama and the NFL does more with less. Wish I could be as informed as you.
Either you are a troll or completely just ignorant of the facts. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and say you must have overlooked the post talking about USC sanctions when he was there and how he improved Tenn record when he was there and Ole Miss being ole miss.

Planning got rid of a lot of what Mario brought in and cleaned house staff wise. There are barely any kids left from Mario’s days in the starting lineup. Along w that he cleaned house from the skill positions and qb. Oregon was also a title contender pre Mario. It wasn’t like he took a forever downtrodden program.a lot of the Oregon stuff was debunked by Reilly. Mario did well there. He also isn’t the reason for their currrnt success either. Both are true

You’re right, he does so much more with less. Can’t wait for him to get his big break. Schools are probably chomping at the bit.

I never said Mario is getting it done. His performance last season was a disaster and his non-kneel vs GT ruined this one.

I can poRst about Lane without pretending Mario’s performance has been acceptable at the same time.
