They’re working on a budget. The premium portal QBs were never in their price range. They jumped on the first bargain basement guy with experience they could get. Kromenhoek was a five star recruit. Yeah, he wasn’t ready to play as a true freshman because I’m 100% positive that DJU got all the reps in practice. But it’s not like he was some mid, three star project player. They practically pushed him out the door. Norvell has completely gone into desperation mode and he’s willing to burn the entire future just to keep his job for one more season.
Despite their pathetic record, they weren’t an absolute garbage team last year. Their offense just couldn’t score at all. If Castellanos delivers on just being an OK quarterback, they could be a five or six win team. But that’s the problem. There’s nowhere to go from there. Norvell still can’t recruit and he hasn’t shown an ability to develop his own offensive players. They’re in a perpetual cycle of trying to bring in budget portal players to just keep their team competitive. They’re a lower half ACC team now and will be as long as their staff remains
