Tears Nole Tears (“Offcial”)

Look at that depth chart with all those upper class men. Cant say it’s a young team

My god.
It's the whole organization. Norvell is a goober and doesn't relate well to kids, and very few on his staff do, either. It was the #1 thing I said at the time he was hired....he's a good coach, can he recruit Florida and Georgia? He better hire a staff that can. Welp, he didn't.

So, as the first couple classes progressed, it was realized very early on that:

1. Norvell is a dork who kids don't connect with
2. FSU's NIL was a mess

So the HS classes sucked. They have their NIL in a better spot now, but the collective and department realized, without saying the quiet part out loud, this dude isn't great at collecting HS talent. But he's a decent evaluator, let's go after more proven things in the portal, and the ones we hit on, let's pay them to stay. See: Verse, Jared as an example. They gave him over $1M to come back for his last year when he'd have been a Top 15 pick if he came out after 2022.

Then, the collective had those quotes in the article a week or so ago literally saying what their strategy is. They are going to spend the majority of their NIL budget on portal kids, because they're more "known" and "sure things". Problem though it, a LOT of other schools want the "known" and "proven kids" too. So what happens when you really want Cam Ward, but other schools do, too? Welp, you settle for DJ Ukulele. Oops. Everyone wants Damien Martinez, but you can't get him, so you settle for Roydell Williams.

Yeah, you're getting portal kids. But these kids haven't done ****. Jared Verse was EXCELLENT at Albany. Sure, it was Albany, but there was tape of him putting FBS kids on their asses. Braden Fiske too. There are risks with these kids because they haven't done it at the P4 level, but they have college tape of them flat-out dominating. But you're not going to get all those kids, every single year, which is what you have to do when you're taking 1-2 year rentals. So instead, you get Shawn Murphy, because, hey, he's a Bama kid!! But he shows up, and he ******* sucks. Well, that's kinda the risk you take when you take kids who have no tape, whether they're at Bama or not. And now they're stuck having to play Davonte Brown and kids like that because, for one, those are the only assets they pulled from the portal, and two, it's not like they have a long-line of blue-chips behind them because they're been recruiting average HS classes.

VERY slippery slope right now for Norvell. They talk all this **** about Miami's "culture", and how everyone here is a mercenary, what happens if we lose some games, etc. etc. They think the kids who went there did so because they love being around Renegade? Those dudes took a lot of money too. So what happens when they lose 2-3 games by early/mid October? Glass houses, my friends.

I think one of the biggest issues is Florida State has a high school talent advantage being in the state of Florida. Using the portal negates that.

Is it safe to say building mainly through the portal at the expense of high school recruits isn’t a winning proposition yet? Especially when the competition for proven commodities has gotten crazy?

At this point, pretty much every school has some transfer hits they can sell to recruits. The brand value of being "Last Chance U" is going to decrease every year. Every school is more competitive in the transfer portal than they used to be. The bottom line is this... you don't get to "pick" your players in the transfer portal any more than you get to pick them in recruiting.

There is also a problem with the 'higher hit rate' theory... and that is when you whiff on HS recruiting you need a perfect hit rate. Higher really doesn't cut it because when you end up with DJU at QB you're f-ed.

The best teams are upgrading in the portal, not building in the portal.

I'd say the same can be said about completely ignoring the portal ala Clemson. But it's obvious that HS has bigger impact overall.

Even worse when Davante Brown is starting at Safety.

It's only an advantage if you can actually exploit it.

Being at the Playboy Mansion in the 80s and 90s was probably a massive advantage if you were a heterosexual male. But if you had the game of Forrest Gump, did it really matter that you were there?

The years the Noles were really down they had dog**** receivers

It was the 5 star thing and that’s the end of the story for sure

Same with Cormani I fell for it too

He sucks..

Noticed the entire starting Offense is littered with Sr's and/or 5th yr Sr's. Wow! They will lose 3-4 games this year...wonder how many games they lose next year?!?!
Their only good players in the defensive backfield are also SR's or JR. Shyheim Brown is a RS JR, I believe, but will probably go NFL after this year. Kevin Knowles and Fentrell Cypress are Sr's. Those 3 guys can play. Not saying they are All-American, but they are pretty good. Watching that GT game, there is a huge drop off from them and anybody else in that secondary. The rest of their guys are doo-doo.

Agree with everything except Davante Brown.

They didnt need Davante Brown their classes every year is full with dbs. its all they seem to recruit lol

Brown went there because of the relationship with Randy Shannon and Surtain and they were gonna grab the younger broother as well but our cb coach took a job at buffalo which allowed for us to have a cleaner slate for the younger bro who likely wouldve left as well.

Davante passed on us for UCF the first time in his hs recruitment. Seems pops and randy shannon are click tight. lol
