No more walk-ons and 105 limit roster(105 scholarship players

Interesting. Will benefit teams in recruiting hotbeds like Cal, GA, TX and FL.

Wonder how many schools will just shutter the program, or opt to move down. Can't be expected to compete if you have 20 fewer scholarships than someone else, and adding 20 scholarships in football means pulling them from other mens sports or adding them to women's sports which may not be in the cards of all athletic departments right? Potentially a pretty impactful decision it seems?

Good. With the money being thrown around the walkons may as well be on scholarship. I'm sure there will some slang introduced into the parlance for the players that perform the walk-on function.

I'll miss the Jimmy Murphy or Rudy stories. But struggling at the bottom with the big reward of maybe getting a little insignificant playing time isn't much of a reward.

Jimmy was put in on 4th and 1 to get a first over everybody else so he's obviously better than Rudy.

How so? Possibly for the 2 star types that require some S&C but generally speaking, 3 stars and up probably have no interest in being stashed in a P4 school as a freshman. I'm sure they'd rather get an offer to get PT at a G5 school or lesser P4 school, get on the field, perform, and then hop to the portal to the big boys. JMO

This means teams can sign gigantic classes. At the end of the day, these kids want to play. And if they are not on the two deep they probably jump ship. So expect big classes and a lot of attrition. How many scholarships that averages out to will be interesting to see.

Maybe. Maybe these players see it as a chance. There'll always be players wanting to be at a certain program, playing for certain cultures or wanting to participate in winning cultures.

It widens the board because you don't have to consider roster spots anymore. You can load up. And these states have loads of athletic talent that gets passed up, also because teams don't have that many spots remaining.

Yeah I hear you. Also will make the portal absolutely bonkers.

I thought the SEC just announced like a week or 2 ago they were sticking to 85 for 2025 because the judge in the House didn't sign the settlement and it was going to drag into like April 2025 or something

I miss that too. But now we have our defense and it hits a little different when it is 11 players at a time
