NIL/ Apologies

Being in the ACC hurts more then you think in my opinon.
So Oklahoma and Texas are going to the SEC and if we have comparable NIL packages to us and they all of sudden are doing much better, FSU got their NIL act together and they're almost forcing their way out of the ACC (and if they go anywhere it'll be the SEC) and just come off a 10 win season and their doing well on the trail.

See a pattern, being part of the SEC or being in the conversation of the SEC. Kids wanna play in front of their people at least during the season and that's part of it.

We gotta get out of the ACC, like yesterday.

LifeWallet was always a stupid concept no matter how much he plugged it. Re-group, re-brand & re-start.

I think Time Shares are a good option.

Kidding, John. Please don't.

I agree with you to a certain extent. If you look at the top 12 classes currently on 247 what do you see? Every single team except for one is winning. Truthfully, the only anomaly is Florida and we know what’s going on there. I’m not saying the Ruiz situation is helping but at some point the elite kids want to see tangible results on the field.
It’s been said money isn’t the issue. I believe top recruits are taking a wait and see approach with us which understandable after a season where we were projected to possibly win the ACC only to go 5-7 well below expectations.

A winning season and we land a top 5 class. It’s atypical for a coach to publicly call out a team that just went 5-7. Which shows imo the kind of influence Miami has on these recruits. Other schools see a threat on the trail clearly.

When we lose players people come up with all these factors and excuses. Different things matters to different kids. Simple af. SEC didnt matter to Samson, Francis, Popo, Malik, Cormani, Travis Hunter. Elijah Rushing and on and on. The thing the SEC does more than other conferences is on a wide scale pay the players legally and illegally Saban did it, Smart did it, UF is doing it, Texas A&M done it, FSU is doing it. Ohio, even USC, Clemson. U either join them or keep making excuses. Because Clemson and Ohio are not in the SEC and are the last 2 non SEC schools to win titles. Complainimg about not being in the SEC is simply trying to explain that this one thing u cant change is the single reason u cant compete. Its bullsh!t. It is an issue. It is a factor. Its not the only thing or Vandy, Mizzou, Ole Miss, Miss St would simply beat us for every recruit.

No they dont take football as serious as LSU, Bama, Texas A&M, UGA etc does. U wanna win, u join them like Clemson and Ohio does.

There is definitely a problem. It might be NIL, or maybe it's something else. It's like a black hole in that you can't see it but you can detect its presence by observing how things behave near it. And the abrupt drop-off in recruiting is a conspicuous sign of a problem behind the scenes. Couple that with all the hype about whales from early summer and you can't deny that something has gone wrong. Please don't **** down my leg and tell me it's raining.
I suspect that while we have sufficient funds, we’re being cautious about overspending due to the effect it would have on the 2023 class that we just brought in. Put it more succinctly, let’s say we offered Simmons three years, $13M. He signs. But now every highly rated defensive end that we signed in 2022 and 2023 want a raise. And we say no. So three or four of them leave. So you got Simmons, but you’re worse off.

Or you freely give out raises to everyone in the defensive end room. Now you’re spending around $30M annually on the defensive end room. But just wait…now your defensive ends and linebackers see what Simmons got and want increases as well. More NIL escalation.

It’s why I was saying a year ago that what A&M was doing was unsustainable. And it is, unless you have a booster who is willing to ultimately fund a college team at a level roughly equivalent to an NFL franchise. Because after four to five years and accounting for salary escalation in an uncapped environment, that is what it becomes. Literally, there is nothing aside from resources to stop a team from offering $300M to a Simmons or Wingo. It’s like English Premier League football.

Who cared about the concept he was paying kids and the checks seemingly cleared. He also had them filming ‘commercials’ and stuff which I’m sure for 18 year old kids was cool. Now we seemingly can’t pay kids the same or else Mario just forgot how to recruit.

There is a component of LifeWallet that I do feel could have significant value, probably not billions though. There is a need for immediate availability of medical history and list of current medications in the event of medical emergencies, particularly for at risk populations. Pulling that exclusively through insurance records is not a complet epicture though.

Ruiz or not, what gets me is the lack of urgency.

I get you wanting to only spend X amount this year on recruiting (and Im not downplaying retention of current team because keeping that core together after that season was beyond impressive) but c’mon, you don’t see how it’s going?

Is there no urgency to get back up and fight? Do these boosters/donors with the means not want to step up? We should be doubling the bag for Stone, Papa, Franklin & Breland yesterday!

We really have no clue was is actually going on behind the scenes with recruiting. I remember when Bowden was with FSU , their recruiting would look like it was going nowhere then near signing day, them suddenly they get all these recruits right before signing day. I have no doubt we will end up with a very good class

I was wondering if the Trader NIL package was what made Robinson upset. I have no proof of this at all but Trader being a 5 star probably received a bigger package than Robinson and coincidentally, shortly after Trader commits, Robinson starts flirting with OSU.
This is bound to happen all over college sports in a completely unregulated world.

On a much smaller level, my nephew who plays basketball at Stetson and made All-conference last season and was the team’s leading scorer called me upset that a teammate who was far less effective on the court had a bigger NIL package. My advice; tell that to the collective and make sure they understand your displeasure. Within 48 hours my nephew received an enhanced NIL package.

As you noted, there is nothing to prevent this type of escalation from happening every year. Frankly the only method to stop this is not to regulate NIL (the Supreme Court will strike that down), but to limit transfers As that is the weapon every player can wield right now. So I can’t believe I am writing this but I AGREE WITH THE NCAA DECISION TO LIMIT TRANSFERS TO ONE TIME. My tablet almost exploded typing that last sentence.

Robinson just recently started flirting with OSU because they hadn’t offered him until now

Maybe but do you think there’s any possibility recruiting may have changed even slightly in the 15 years since he last coached??

Completely agree. Premise, good. Execution, bad.

Asking here so it doesn't gain attention (spitballing)..

Is there a chance Miami distanced themselves from Ruiz with his recent legal troubles? In years past, we've been gutless & would totally do something like that. Add in his boisterous flair & it seems plausible.

Turning down money would really rustle my jimmies. Blood diamonds are still diamonds. Lol
