NFL Scouts Evaluates the talent on UM Roster

LOL at their comments on Dorito and Fish. Pretty much what some of us have been preaching the entire time.

### An AFC scout, on defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio’s approach: “They could play a little more aggressive. If you can’t rush the passer, why sit back? Why are you seven yards off a receiver? I would be sending people left and right, playing pressure coverage. They’re giving up yards anyway.”

### Another scout questioned offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch for throwing to Robert Lockhart instead of running the ball on a third and two deep in FSU territory last week, and said Mike James – not Duke Johnson – should be used on short yardage. “Duke is not going to be a Clinton Portis or Edgerrin James, where you hand him the ball 25 times a game.”
By the way, Fisch said Saturday that UM burned Lockhart's redshirt because he "has made some amazing one-on-one playts in practice" which reminded the staff of Tommy Streeter last year.

Whole bunch of **** we already knew. Worst senior class in D1 football and the junior class is the exact same minus OL & Morris. We're in position to win our half of the ****** ACC with FR and SO, and it sounds like we have a good class coming in unless sanctions destroy our ****. It feels like 1998/1999 all over again. We suck but we're clearly going in the right direction. The only questions remaining are (1) do sanctions give us a kill shot, (2) does this young coaching staff grow up or are we going to have a group of Butch-esque coaches who can build a program but are average on game days.

I don't believe anything on that blog. I think Manny is full of ****. Plus any scout that's going to wait until the mid rounds to draft Seantrel is a moron, and an unemployed scout.

Umm WOW! If you look at Seantrel's full body of work there's no way he should even be considered a first-mid round pick. He was clearly overweight and underperformed in the weight room for 2 years.. This year, he slimmed down but he's still isnt a dominating OL like he was projected to be.

Right now, all anyone can say about Seantrel is that he has "All-world" potential... Unfortunately, they've been saying this for 4 years now! He hasn't put the work in until this year.. IMO, Seantrel will only be a first-mid round pick if he stays his senior year and DOMINATES! He needs to show that his on and off the field issues are clearly behind him.

Man, I really don't get it. Have you watched him the last few games? I mean zeroed in and watched closely? He dominated the German kid....he was kicking his *** up and down the field.

Look I know he's had issues, and I agree with his performance issues the last couple years, but the guy has been dominating the last few games. He's impressive when you really watch him. Great feet.

lol you think hes full of ****? why is that? he is a beatwriter for the team with far more access than us and its supposedly a scout telling him this information not him making it up based on his opinions. anyways, everything said is what we already knew but the most surprising thing was the nfl scouts agree w most of us on here about having our corners sit 7-10 yards back. still concerned to hear about KB considering those other 2 schools even tho i thought he disspelled those USCe rumors a week ago. and seriously what is dumbo and the other tallytrashy noles telling these kids? they havent wont a title since 99 but everyone acts like they won it last year. now that UF lost to UGA i really hope they go up and smack jimbo in the mouth, just tired of that garbage overhyped team that cant even go undefeated in the worst ACC in about 10 years.

Actually it was Barry Jackson, so my bad. That said, if you think Manny has any credibility, you haven't been paying attention.

Uh, have you watched him the LAST FEW YEARS? Puh-lease. Please don't tell me you honestly believe that a few good games erases an entire career of mediocrity? Oh, that's right...because he wears a U on his helmet, it is blasphemous to say that he isn't going until the mid rounds.

Get your head out your ***. We are a horrible football team, with horrible talent, and questionable coordinators.

Well I guess a lot of us on the board were right about this....
What is obvious to anyone who has ever watched football, is that if you put no pressure on the passer at this level, they will kill you. Period.

While I agree, it is not true because ONE SCOUT in the AFC says it. This guy is a scout, not a current coach. He is also UNNAMED like the source. The AFC probably has 75+ scouts (4-6 per team), I usually don't take this as the gospel.

Be more aggressive, so we blitz and the blitz get's picked up. The blitz ain't **** unless our DL can create the mismatch for the blitz, which we can't because they suck.

Rome wasn't built in a day, this defense won't be fixed overnight because we are MORE AGGRESSIVE. Please note, I am not a big coach D fan but we really suck on the DL.

Anyone thinking there is much talent on this Canes team is only deluding themselves. Doesn't take a super scout to see the shambles that is our current reality.

The scout didn't just point out the obvious that we have no talent. He pointed out that our coordinators have made some questionable decisions on top of us having **** talent...something half of this board doesn't think is an issue.

### One scout said of the receivers, “I like Rashawn Scott the best, with his size. He has the most upside.” He likes Phillip Dorsett’s talent, but “it looks like the bigger the game, he’s not ready for that.” And the offensive line “is disappointing. Physically, they look as a good as any in the nation.

For some reason, our overrated OL gets a pass from fans.

I think most know both are issues, just unable to give accurate percentages of blame to the variable or issues

Total Blame for D's Subpar Performance

1. Talent on D (X%)

2. Youth on D (Y%)

3. Coaching on D (Z%)

I am no football expert, but I know each are issues. I just cannot put my finger on it, I do know that we will recruit more and more kids and the currents ones will get stronger and get more experience and the depth will be very good. Eventually (why I say 2014) these freshman (Moore, EJ, Bush, McCord, Howard etc.) will be juniors and then you will see how much blame the D coaching gets. I know everyone is not cool with subpar play now (neither am I) we will know in the future if we can "TRUST THE PROCESS."

Too the board, we can either debate week in and week out or you can just relax and discuss in a calm fashion. No one is happy with the play, but maybe it is not as simple as "being more aggressive." These are professional coaches on D, they probably know more than us.

I think we've pass protected well all season and when your OC doesn't really try to establish a between the tackle running game I can't really do anything but give them a pass.

yeah, we don't give up sacks (partly cause the quick passing but there are also times Morris just has all day. the run game when we commit to it usually gets a decent yards per carry average. plus coming into the season most felt that this OL was built more for a power running game yet they've been put in a finesse role more than anything.

OL gets a pass because we have an offensive identity that is horribly mismatched to our talent.

Four/Five wide, with this crew?

I know Barry Jackson has been writing down here for years and has a stellar reputation in the media

LMAO. What planet are you from. The guy is a notorious hack.

It really is dumbfounding how we give up everything and not try to take anything away. We are getting tourched up and down the field for yards and points yet we dont play aggressive for fear of giving up a big play. Basically we play scared ad give ourselves no chance of the defense getting a negative play or forcing a play

Mark No D ofrio doesn't believe in time of possession either.

Calais Campbell went early in round 2 in 2008 should of been a first round pick he's a top 5 DE in the NFL now...

Gee, somehow Oregon managed to hold a slim 56-0 lead over Colorado at halftime, despite being was behind on that important TOP. The they miraculously held on and won 70-14, despite packing up at halftime. But Colorado can mark down a big win in TOP.

The purpose of the offense is to score points. If you score points every time you are on offense, things are likely to turn out well for you at the end of the day. Possessing the ball to eat up clock has very limited usefulness. If you are close enough to the end of the half, or the game, to keep the ball until time expires, then you deny your opponent an offensive opportunity. Otherwise, it's useless. They don't give you points for holding the ball longer than your opponent.

Right use a top 5 teams performance agaisnt one of the worst in division one as an example.

Cute post.

A - How many championships has Oregon won? None and they never will win one.

B - What do you think Alabama thinks about time of possession? And they actually have won a couple in the last few years.

C - the object of the offense is to score points. So how many points will your own offense scoreversus the opponent if they are only on the field for a quarter of the game?

The offensive and defensive sides of the ball are not independent in football. They play off each other.

What does me disagreeing with the assessment on Seantrel have to do with the teams talent level or our coordinators. I am not blinded by the U at all....and if he gets drafted late so be it.

He may have issues etc, but denying the kids talent is just stupid. Wish some of our oline gurus would weigh in on Seantrel. Very curious to get their take.

I agree with the assessment of our older talent, and our poor coaching. I would have liked to hear what the scouts thought of the younger guys though. Especially since they got to watch an entire practice.
